Firstly, I admit that I didn't do the whole recipe from scratch. I really really really really love chinese food, and I've been trying to fix my favorites, but I haven't been able to duplicate the sauces to my satisfaction. And then one day at the store I saw of bottle of Iron Chef: Sesame and Garlic Sauce.
It was at that point that I knew that there was a God. ![]() And so I took two chicken breasts, skinned and sliced into thin strips, and dredged them in corn starch and deep fried in my Presto deep-fryer. Afterwards, I put the fried chunks in a skillet with the above named sauce, heated it thru, and sprinkled on some sesame seeds. ![]()

What a coincidence you would post this
![]() Definitely going to look for the sauce. How sweet is it and did you find it in a regular grocery store? I'm a sesame chicken fiend and keep wanting to make it at home. There's a restaurant here in town that slices the chicken super thin and they don't over-sauce it. Best I've ever had. That's what I want to duplicate. Thanks, Fuzzy! |

I found it in a normal supermarket store's chinese food section.
And It wasn't too sweet. I found it to be just perfect, which is surprising, even to me. ![]()

I make Sesame Chicken too and I've got a suggestion:
Put 2 eggwhites and a pinch of sugar in a bowl, mix together, add the chicken then the cornstarch. Mix everything together then seperate the pieces and deep-fry them for about 2-3 minutes,(until the outside is crisp) @ 360 F. (Let it finish cooking in the pan with the sauce.) The eggwhites make the chicken even crispier and a bit moister. Enjoy!

I love sesame chicken!
I tried to make it once and it didn't turn out too well. Edible, but not great. However, there is a great chinese takeout place down the road that I frequent about once a week. ![]() |

I finally got some of the Iron Chef Sesame and Garlic Sauce. Fabulous stuff. I'm going to stop looking for a recipe for a homemade sauce and just use this. (Thanks, Fuzzy!)
I varied things a little--baking the chicken instead of frying it and it came out nice and crispy and surprisingly like the restaurant version. I also used boneless skinless thighs because that's what I had on hand (probably also held up better in the oven than breasts would too). Slicing them thinly was easier because they were partly frozen still. Here's what I did to bake it: Sliced the chicken thighs very thin, then shook them in a ziplock bag with flour, black pepper, bread crumbs and sesame seeds. Ratio was about 4 parts flour, 2 parts sesame seeds, 1.5 parts bread crumbs. (Used flour because I was out of corn starch.) Spread them thinly on a large cookie sheet and baked at 400 degrees until crispy, tossing/stirring them twice while cooking. After baking, I tossed the chicken in just enough sauce to coat and sauteed until hot. I just reread this thread and see I forgot the egg whites. I'll try that tomorrow night with the rest of the chicken I have sliced up and ready to cook Last edited by rainyday : 05-28-2006 at 09:46 PM. |

Does the sauce say anything like "Modified food starch" or "Flavorings?"
