Ok, this IS brilliant! And here I've been wrapping a paper-towel folded over and then around the pint of ice cream.

And the asparagus peeler? Ummm color me confused. I had no idea they supposed to be peeled either.

I LOVE this! I rarely buy fresh herbs unless I'm going to use them right away because they end up shriveling up too quickly. This would solve that!

I found this...

A great kitchen gadget by the name of “Lemon run” has caught my eye. This kitchen gadget will prevent you from spurting juice all over the place, or even worse, onto people’s face or clothes while squeezing it onto your dish.

I'm a sucker for squirting lemon juice everywhere but where it's supposed to be!

This has solved an ongoing problem for me! Every spring I receive invitations from the children of assorted cousins who, having ignored my existence for the first twenty-four years of their lives, now find they cannot contemplate the idea of marriage without me in attendance. They thoughtfully enclose a note saying they would prefer money to a gift. Of course, in such a significant and meaningful moment I cannot let crass commercialism override the personal touch of a gift I myself have selected for this person whom I have never seen. But now that the asparagus peeler has entered my life, I need never again be at a loss for an appropriate wedding gift for third-cousin Lemuel's son Cletus or any of the rest of them!

I love that hamster wheel. It's very cute.

Speaking of gadgets, do you guys know if those special vegetable bags work? Do they really keep veggies longer? I subscribe to a CSA farm and they send me a box of veggies every two weeks. While I love what we get, since they're grown organically they don't last as long as regular produce. I was thinking maybe I'd try those bags, see if they help.

I've tried them on tomatoes and bananas -- since I don't want to refrigerate either of these -- and they definitely slow the ripening process. I think they're great!

If you are talking about the green bags, then YES!!! Ive posted on here about them before, they are absolutely unbelievable. It's just myself and my son at home and he is bad at eating many vegetables, so I use these bags. Bell peppers can last easily several weeks, iceberg lettuce lasts at least three week, courgettes and aubergines last several weeks too. Potatoes stay fresh for a couple of months rather than going soft and sprouting. I would add that I do keep all fruit and veg in the fridge in these bags. They have worked well for absolutely every fruit and vegetable I have ever tried in them. The cost of the bags paid for itself in saved produce within a few weeks. Also, I rinse out the bags and reuse them many times, they still work. I am on a tight budget but I've used these for about ten yrs now, wouldn't be without them.

I did once buy some from US ebay as they were cheaper than my usual brand, but they didnt work as well as the ones i normally use, and I had to put a sheet of kitchen paper in each bag, which ended up damp. The ones i normally use are these...

http://www.lakeland.co.uk/F/keyword/...1932_1094_1092

ps. I LOVE the Lakeland website, its not cheap but their stuff appeals to my kitchen equipment fetish as well as my storage container one.

(If anyone simply must have an item but lives in the US, pm me)

Thanks, Rubes. I'm definitely going to look for some of those bags. My box came yesterday and I want to be sure those veggies stay fresh as long as possible. I wish I'd remembered about those bags you like earlier; my friend, who is Scottish by birth, has been visiting her dad in Scotland these past two months. She left yesterday to come back. If I'd thought of it, I'd have asked her to add those bags to the list of Glayva, oat cakes, Jaffa cakes, and Orkney wine that I asked her to pick up for me.

This isn't a "gadget", per se, but I really, really, really want one. Of course, it would be the only spider allowed in my kitchen. LOL

There's a brand I got here in the states called Evert-Fresh Green bags. I don't recommend those. They would always build up moisture inside and cause rotting. There's no way I'm going to dry off my veggies everyday My mom's been pleased with the Debbie Meyer brand, though.

I just got some of those bags, the Debbie Meyer ones, and wow they work great! I'm really pleased with them because now I actually have time to get to my veggies before they go bad.

I got a set of rubbermaid produce saver...I love them...I have all the sizes...kind of expensive (large one is 10 bucks) but it's saving money in the end than buying the bags all the time.
