Default A Tootsie Roll Fact i found interesting

As a recovering cigarette addict, i happen to have acquired a fixation on Tootsie Roll Pops. I was just poking around on the net and discovered:

1. Tootsie Rolls Pops are made by Tootsie Roll Industries, Inc. (ain't that a cool name for a big company?)
2. Tootsie Roll Industries, Inc. is not only a publicly traded company (ticker: TR), but is one of the elders on the Dow.
3. The TR peeps also are the makers of, among many other things) Sugar Babies and Sugar Daddy's. (i only mention this because those happen to be two other things i've had (unrequited) cravings for lately).
4. TR has a PE of over 19, which is some indication that the Eternal Wisdom of the General Public is that TR will grow slightly faster than the overall market in the future. That got me to wondering if that optimism is based upon the fact that (happily) cigarette smoking is becoming so socially unacceptable and so many ex-smokers share my oral cravings.

Peripherally, all this got me to wondering if there's a parallel rise in the number of hits on breast-oriented sites on the www.

It's funny the direction things can take when you start doing a little market research.

Hmmm...I'll see your Tootsie trivia and raise you:

5. The best candy the TR peeps make is Junior Mints. (ok, opinion, not fact).
6. TRs were invented in 1896 by Leo Hirshfield in NYC, and he named them after his daughter, Clara, whose nickname was Tootsie.
7. Tootsie Rolls are now available in chocolate covered mini-chews! I want some!!
8. Tootsie Roll fact: One Hungarian ghostbuster claims that you can catch a ghost in a jar with a Tootsie Roll. He insists that ghosts cannot resist Tootsie Rolls. A lit candle must be placed in the jar with an unwrapped Tootsie Roll. The ghost will enter the jar and then you just put the lid on. The ghost will remain in the jar until the jar is opened or broken.
9. You can make ice cream sauce from melted Tootsie Rolls. Recipe here.

(post 999 and counting..)

One TR fact I didn't know was the TR peeps acquired the company that made the Charleston Chew.

Another one of my favorites!

One more factoid:

If you throw one in a swimming pool, you will get to have the pool to yourself. (OK, I think Baby Ruth is the traditional poopie-looking candy, but Toosie Roll will do in a pinch.)

the midgies would not work, the mega sized one would probably do it though . I have been known to go around the office and strip all the mixed candies of the tootsie rolls.

I don't like to buy Tootsies in the bulk candy, cause I like a softer chew.

However, I get the "Starburst-like" flavored Tootsies any chance I get.

Going back to the poo reference (sorry), Tootsie Rolls softened in the microwave then gently shaped make the perfect "cat poop" for Kitty Litter Cake - a Halloween favorite.

This is edible, I swear. The recipe: http://www.kristianhoffman.com/kitty-litter.htm

Ohmigawd, that Kitty Poop Cake is the most hilarious, adorable and clever thing ever!!! I'm making one for the next office birthday!

Yes, JerseyBigBoy, definitely a little wrong, but it's CAKE! Even when cake is wrong... it's cake!

Come on, you'd really have to wonder about the first person who digs in and plops that mess on a plate. I'm no food snob, but food asthetics are somewhat required.

I don't disagree. If I'm at a restaurant or something, I like my food to look yummy. But if it's a Halloween party, the kid in me gets a kick out of crazy stuff like worms in dirt and skull candy.

Yeah, worms in dirt is actually good--I had that once. But cat turds????

I agree!
I've got a jello mold that looks like a human brain. It even came with a recipe to make it sort of brain colored. I made it once and filled it with gummy worms.
A huge hit!!

Just bringing this back, since I made it and took it to work today for my birthday treat. It was a huge hit, and lots of people got copies of the recipe.

Just looking at that cake makes me a little sick. Oh my.

I have to laugh, though.

Sadly, the mini-chews aren't all that great. They're a item available at movie theatres, but I recommend you stick with the Junior Mints and Goobers.
