Short Term Disability

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with this? My doctor has suggested that since my first round of RA medication didn't work that I go on it for the second round and get my strength back.

I've made calls and it's confusing at best...and I'm in insurance lol.

I'd love to hear everyone elses experiences.

California made it easy. I printed the forms from the internet, filled them all out, made sure to authorize my doctor to fill out the bottom part, and I was done! I'm going to be on it for as long as it lasts.

The pay turns out to be (in California) about half of what I would have normally made. The chart to figure that out, though is confusing!

It's from work. What I've been told is call out sick for a week and on the first day call to place your claim so the insurance can contact your doctor and get you set up. I'd get paid 2/3's of my regular pay.

What I'm worried about is if they deny it. My doc said they won't but you never know...

Even if you call in, your doctor needs a signed something or other authorizing them to verify your medical condition. So be sure to get that so everything moves smoothly for you!

Thanks, I didn't think about needing to give my permission. I'll make sure to call them and get them what they need.

Yep, as long as your doctor approves it, it won't get denied. I've had three surgeries and have used it with two of them. Depending on your company's policy you may have to burn up all your sick leave (which in my case includes vacation time since we have one "PTO pool" that we pull from) but after that it kicks in. It was great to get some income while I was recuperating!

Thanks Vickie! I still haven't heard back and I did burn up what little vacation I had. I'm glad to hear that I won't get denied. I've been working at companies with quality insurance and always paid extra for the STD so I'm glad it's there.
