Fat Positive Art

I find Eva Hannahs art fat positive...these are two of her Fat Ladies series pics...i love her stuff and think it shows us as happy and exhuberant and beautiful.

Here are a few images I love & why:

1. Tamara de Lempika - so very, very sensual
2. Karen Marie Portaleo - abundant curves, rolls and tummies and I love the fantasy aspect of her work, love her teapots especially.
3. Niki De Saint Phalle - I want dance around her magical garden someday (Really. Her Tarot Garden in Tuscany). Her work makes me happy.
4. Ian Rawling - Lots of fat, happy love in his work.
5. Ernst Hanke - Sweet FA known to frequent the Dims chatroom on occasion. This is one of the pieces he did of me a few years ago.

I really love all of these examples.They are much closer to real than anything I've seen before.I never really realized people painted fat women to show them as beautiful.Yay!

The first 'BBW nude' I probably ever saw was Renoir's "Les Grandes Baigneuse" (the large bathers). Although the women in it are not actually all that large, he ever so lovingly captures the play of fat on the different parts of their bodies. I first saw it in my late teens, when I was pretty sure I was attracted to bigger women, but wasn't 100% sure if that would hold up without clothes on (was there a reason so many people scorned them?). Renoir helped to reassure me

If you have an appreciation for big women and you're an artist, I think you can do it. Just play with it until it feels right. There is no right way or wrong way to express yourself. Work at it and if you feel brave, share your art here.

I've been trying to rekindle my creative spirit lately and not wanting to head out in a snowstorm last month, I forced myself to create a hand-made birthday card for my husband. It's the Venus of Willendorf, so I guess that makes it bbw art. Here it is (minus the personal message in the card).

Thanks, I love them too. Keep meaning to get around to getting that first one framed and hung as I have a high gloss print out of it at home!! I need to stop procrastinating lol!

That's the same artist. I would've loved to have seen her work displayed at MOBOT. Her website www.nikidesaintphalle.com/ doesn't appear to be up and running right now, but check it out sometime and look at photos from her Tarot Garden in Tuscany. It's a colorful mosaic world of wonderful sculptures you can walk through, on and around.
