Default Queer Films

Has anyone seen any GOOD queer films?. I dont think i have seen any lesbian Films that were any good. Though i enjoyed 'tipping the velvet' but that was more of a 3 part tv series. All the other films i have seen have either been low budget (i dont mean porn lol) or really sickly and cheesey.

I love Tipping the Velvet!!! I love her wee accent when she says "Whitstable"! LOL!

I love Breakfast On Pluto, its about a transgendered guy in Ireland.

Also you can't beat Queer as Folk, even though its a TV show too. And I mean the UK one not the US one lol.

The series Sugar Rush was quite good too!

There is the obvious mainstream choice of Brokeback Mountain although it is also gay men, and not lesbians.

I just found this site that lists tonnes of films with lesbian characters and/or plotlines, looks like a good wee site but I haven't had time to read it properly.

Lesbian Films
haha aye. 'whooitstoobol'! 'oiy niver kneew twoo guurls cud be sweethoarts"
Will have a wee look at that list..
i remember seeing a german film called Amy and jaguar (probs not the right spelling..actually maby it wasnt even german!) and it was actually really good but quite sad. Its set during ww2. Also i liked some of the scenes from Henry and June the film about Henry millar and his wife June (uma Thurman) who had an affair with anias Nin (who is played by pulp fiction 'i want a pot' woman).
i will probs see films on that list and think.. 'oh i saw that one and it was good'
Oh actually..i rememeber another film called 'gazon modit' ?? I think the British title was 'French twist' and it was a pretty good comedy but there were no hot sex scenes in it.. so really..what IS the point?? I'm certainly not looking for storyline in my lesbian films! (actually porn might be a good option for me!) lmao

Ohh Cool site Bexy! Its funny cause its like EVERY film that even hints at lesbianism!! I was like "hmm the craft..why was that lesbianish?" I see they have a 'woman of size' section which is fabulous because of course i do love womens of size! Actually i should go see what films are there.. i was too excited and had to report back here first!

Ahh i see 'Women of size' means anyone who isnt just an ironing board with nipples. Strange though, i have realised through the medium of 'woman of size catagories' of things that infact i must be the fattest person ever because i am fattter than everyone in the fekkin catagory! I need Dims for my fat zen balance!

There's a charming little Canadian film called "Better than Chocolate" which I like, but I haven't seen it in years. There's a very sad and interesting Canadian film called "The Hanging Garden" which is abouy a fat teenager who leaves his small Canadian town and comes back a thin adult for a wedding. Very intersting, hard to describe.

I can think of tons of films off the top of my head. I'm of course a huge fan of "Bound" and "Boys Don't Cry." Watching "Lost" the other night on TV, I was reminded of the film "Gia" with Angelina Jolie. In that film, her girlfriend is played by Elizabeth Mitchell (Juliet from "Lost"), and the two of them having intimate relations, ahem, is very nice.

Speaking of Kathy Bates, she plays one of my favorite lesbian characters, Libby Holden, in "Primary Colors." She got an Oscar nomination for that, and she does a hell of a job.

I love Kathy bates, she is a really sexy woman. Someone bought me 'better than chocolate' i found it a wee bit cheesy but i really liked the shy geeky butch character and the transexual 'I'm not a fucking drag queen' OH That reminds me..
Hedwig and the angry inch is an amazing film!! AND
Has anyone seen 'But i'm a cheerleader'?? I love it..its obvious the director was influenced by john waters (mink stole is even in it)...but its really quirky and cool.
Talking of John Waters there was a sex scene in a film called 'desperate living' between Jean Hill and Mink stole that the censors made him cut out on its origional release. It was so rediculous because it was very tame indeed.. I just think it was historical timing and perhaps the censors thought America wasnt ready to see a 500lb Black women tellling a 120lb white woman to 'lick me! lick me!".. In an interview with john waters about it he said "i guess America just dont like fat people"! I loved the scene though..of course!

Of course everyone seen Brokeback Montain, but it is really beautiful movie. And you know it must watch Pedro Almodovar directed films. So anyways my favorites are:

Brokeback Mountain
Y tu Mama Tambien
Shelter
Latter Days
La Mala Educacion
Krampack
Todo Sobre Mi Madre/All About my Mother

Anything Federico Garcia Lorca too.

I <3 John Waters so much! His last film, "A Dirty Shame" had cute Bears in it, and a Goldilocks (the bear version of a fruit fly or a F** H**).

Will finally be watching Hedwig this semester.

Last night we watched "The Boys In The Band" it is from the 70s, however, I did like the film...even if I felt uncomfortable in a few parts.

Discussion following the film, I wasn't alone in my feeling uncomfortable, I think that's what the director was going for though.

I wish I would have seen it as a stage performance.

Default Huzzah for Queer films!

Okay, I watch a shit ton of Indie films, and I have some gems for you:

All Over Me - Lesbian in Hells Kitchen AND Wilson Cruz stars in it!(who's been openly gay since MSCL)

Shortbus - John Cameron Mitchell(aka Hedwig) Wrote, directed and made real lurve in this R17 rated queerfest of sin!

Love! Valour! Compassion! - One of the first real(sorry Tom Hanks) queer movies to deal with the AIDS problem in queer community without pushing for an Oscar.

Beautiful Thing - Yeah I'm obsessed.

Fat Girls - A film based in Texas about a fat girl and her bestie who just happens to want to be a fat girl. (Worth the late charges!)

I have more, but this should be enough for now!
Okay, now I gotta get some work done before the 'ole bossdude notices I've been smiling way to much!

I missed my two faves!

Incredibly True Adventures of Two Girls in Love - Fucking hilarious!

But I'm A Cheerleader - Seeing "Bull" from Night Court waving a rainbow flag makes up for all the cheesy one-liners!

I'm really leavin' now!

One of my all time favorite movies is Jeffrey. It has an awesome cast with Steven Weber, an awesome Patrick Stewart and a really hilarious cameo with Sigourey Weaver. It's about a guy who's scared by AIDS and decides to give up his promiscuous lifestyle for abstinence and the struggles that it involves. It's really funny.

I can think of 2 that come to mind:

"Kiss Me Guido" - A film about 2 gay men who pick each other up in a bar and tries to find a location to have a tryst. What's so funny and sweet about this film is the interaction between hese 2 guys and how they fall for each other on a non-sexual basis.

"Priscilla: Queen of the Desert" - A tale about a group of friends (who happen to be drag queens) and their journey across Australia in a bus they named Priscilla." 100 times more engaging and funnier than "To Wong Foo - Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar". I thought that film was too stereotypical & Wesley Snipes in drag??!!! aw naw shugah!!!

I love John Waters' movies, but I scoff at Desperate Living, but I loved that scene! I know it's so tame and comical, but even I felt scandalized, cause I'd never seen anything like that in a movie before or since.

A movie that might qualify: Water Lillies. It's a french coming of age film about a teen who's in love with her "fat" friend, but she's in love with the captain of the synchronized swimming team, who's in love with a guy. They're all over the place. It's a good movie.

One sort of obscure one that's worth looking for is L'Homme Blesse, directed by Patrice Chereau.

Also good is Les Blessures Assassines (The Murderous Maids), about two live-in maids who are lovers and kill their employer. This one is based on a true story from the turn of the last century, I think.

But I'm a Cheerleader.

I know a lot of people so do not like this movie, but I love it.
