DJ A-Dubs has said some nice things
Default Rips in Jeans

Hey all!
I'm 5'11", a little over 200lbs and have been noticing the strangest thing for the last few months. Two of my jeans have rips in the seams of the crotch and I noticed two small tears in the butt cheek section of one of them today. I wasn't sure they were torn until I held them up to the light and saw it through the jeans.

I've always been a skinny guy and only in recent years have I gotten over the 200lbs mark. Most of my friends aren't over 200lbs, and others tell me how big I am. I figured BHM were men over 300lbs or so. Never did I think the term BHM could apply to me and maybe I still don't. I admit to wanting to be bigger since childhood, but I guess I haven't fully accepted that it may be here now. This jeans thing is an eye opener for me. I'm wondering if this is an unusual thing or it's really a sign that I'm no longer the skinny guy I thought I was.

I get it all the time, it's probably your legs rubbing together when you walk.

If you buy jeans with a stretchy fabric they tend to last much longer.

I had the best fitting nice, baggy pair of jeans ever, and that was the problem, I just put way too much stress on the crotch when doing anything that required more leg stretching than usual and they ripped. I don't actually think weight has as much to do with it, though tightness might be an issue especially if they're old or worn jeans.

Probably a sign I know we're probably shaped a little differently what with me being female and all, but I get this ALL THE TIME. Every pair of jeans I own, even ones that fit well. For me it's wear on the fabric where my thighs rub together when I walk; it's pretty much never a sudden tear, the fabric just gets thinner and thinner in the areas of stress and then I find there's actual holes in it one day. It's definitely weight-related for me, because I used to be quite thin and never had this issue. Iron-on denim patches, like these, are what I use - they're cheap, way easy to put on, and will help reinforce that part of your jeans.

I'm glad all of you have simply noticed wear in the fabric over time. I'm 5'9 and 200 lbs. I was at work wearing pants similar to Dickies, and I bent my legs to pick up a briefcase on the floor. There was no ambiguity over the sound heard all the way down the hallway I occupied, and I had to tell my supervisor that I needed to go home. Through her giggling, she said, 'I hope you're wearing underwear.' I just looked at her rather sheepishly and smiled. She returned my smile and covered her face, and there was no further conversation.

I now check all of my pants for wear and tear whenever I do laundry. I also wish I had thought of the iron-on denim patches.

LOL! Oh man, that sucks... although it's a good story I've never had a pair of jeans do that, although I did have a pair of slacks split right up the center seam on the butt one time at work Nobody was around though, and I ended up ducking into an empty conference room and doing some speedy repair with a stapler, haha. That'll teach me to buy cheap slacks...

To be honest, I've never had it happen with jeans, either. The stapler idea sounds like an emergency, allright; one wrong move while wearing them, and it will be an emergency of a different sort!

Looking back, I'm just glad we could both laugh about it at the time; she knew how embarassed I was and knew it wasn't a trick (she was very pretty, and there were a lot of guys who weren't above 'questionable' behavior in the workplace.)
