Anyway, new pretties have been added today, very pretty I may say!

And yes, that was meant for a rhyme.

I'm thinking of extending my 20% off sale, but thats only a thought. It's running until the 12th, guaranteed.

Congrats on the sales! It's exciting and validating to see the sales come in, isn't it? Good for you.

It definately is, its making all that work feel way more worth it. I think it's because Etsy is changing things around, but I'm not entirely sure. Are your sales more than they were before?

Its just made my day to get those last 3.

From what I have been understanding, they've been trying to change the search functions and the keywords that are used and how. Aparently they're trying to use relevancy more than whatever they were trying before.

I don't fully understand it, but I think it's working a bit better now because my sales are picking up.

Unless I've done something different I didnt know about, haha.

Sometimes it just takes being around for a while before people to notice you; kind of like here, because of the number of people around.

I have to say, a lot of my customers found me through Etsy search and always have, so it's not really changed my sales at all. I do have a lot of repeat customers and I feel blessed for that. They are my favorites.

Yup, and being a jewelry seller, that makes it a touch harder since a ton of other people out there make their own pieces too. I've been doing a bunch of advertising and promoting on twitter and through the community forums. It does seem to help.

And I adore return customers! I've had a few already an <3 them! It makes me feel good that they were happy with their previous order enough so that they wanted to come back again.

New item, new style! I would absolutely love some feedback on this piece. If everyone loves it, I may end up making more pieces in this style. The price is a bit steep (or so a lot of my friends have said) but this took about 7 or more hours to complete...and boy, my fingers sure are sore!

Check out the link for more pictures.

I think it's very, very pretty, but I couldn't afford it. My mom would LOVE this.

P.S. For all that time and the expense of parts, I do think it's worth the price, but I simply couldn't afford it :-(. Too bad since my mom would LOVE that as a gift.

Make more. It is really great. If you, after you have tallied up all the supplies...time...etc..etc...know it needs to be 150.00, then keep it there. You can always tweak the price at some point, but give it some time to really be seen. Let a stranger understand its worth!

Pricing can be a difficult thing, but if you want to make anything even approaching a living wage, you must price accordingly. My prices on many things are still too low, frankly. Low enough that it's hard for me to take on many wholesale customers (about which I have regular inquiries).

I have a friend whose husband makes the big bucks, so she sells her jewelry for much less than she should, which is the sort of thing that raises the hackles of many Etsy sellers, as can be seen in the forum there on a semi-ongoing basis. The reason why is that when people do that then potential customers expect that a pair of earrings that cost you (when truly adjusted properly and is never just the actual cost of this single bead and that single bead or piece of wire) $15 or more to make should sell for maybe that price, not figuring in the person's expertise and time, and the actual costs of doing business, which really add up, as you know.

There is some kind of pressure for some to compete and say "my prices are the lowest!" Well, maybe, but you obviously can afford to practically give things away and not use a proper formula for markup as well as time spent. And also, there are a number of people who believe you get what you pay for, and often it's true. I have a watch necklace in my shop that's going for at least $25 less than it should, but only because I was able to pass some savings on; technically I should not do that, but with the economy as it is, I am.

And yet, this is not WalMart. When someone buys from an artisan they should know that they aren't buying something made by some child in China, and so it will cost more than if they had bought something at WalMart. When someone buys handmade, they are making a direct, positive difference in the life of that person, not just a faceless corportation. Some of us, like me, have to support family on whatever profits I can make that I don't have to put back into the business in the form of supplies, boxes, cards, business cards, mailers, bubble wrap, promotional stuff and on and on. There is a theme with Etsy sellers who try to, and do, make their business successful and that is that they work WAY harder and longer than they would at a 9-5, and many don't earn as much as they need to. I can attest to this. It's a rare day when I do no work at all. The only time it happens really is when I'm feeling too ill to move, or I'm in California for the holidays.

So if you feel that the necklace is what you need to charge, then do it. Were you to have made it from sterling silver, you'd have to charge even more for it. It's obvious that a lot of time went into it. I love doing that wrappy stuff and have some more planned myself. It's just plain fun, even if it can be time-consuming. Beautiful work, honey.

I disagree Tina.

I think some of the prices I see on Jewelry on Etsy is completely outrageous. When I know that most of the sellers are buying thins dirt cheap on Etsy or Fire Mountain or Rings and Things It aggravates me to see it priced at $100.00 on someones Etsy shop.

The difference to me is jewelry makers who start from scratch and make the charms, make every part they put into a piece. *Silver Smiths* That is completely different from jewelry makers that buy a bead a bead cap, a head pin, a jump ring and and ear wire, slap it together and put a $60.00 price tag on it.

This is just how I feel it is not a reflection on anyone here.

The economy sucks, people don't have a lot of money. We (Wayne and i ) aren't rich but I have received so many thank you notes because I try my best to keep prices down, I feel I need to continue this way.

So anyway - my opinion for what it's worth.

It's okay to disagree. I find that a lot of people don't use the proper formula to figure their costs, though. And not everything is dirt cheap, that's for sure. When all is said and done and everything has been computed and factored in, on most of my items I make WAY less doing this than web design (and that's comparing it to my discounted pricing, not regular pricing). WAY less. Actually closer to California's minimum wage, which is $10 an hour. But I mostly dislike web design and love making jewelry, so it's worth it to me to accept less. I'll not give my creations away, though. No one should, but that's not up to me to decide for anyone but myself.

Where's that pic of you with the necklace on, Ms. AK? I wanna see!

I do agree with you in a way on that. I've seen jewelry that was just slapped together and a huge price tag thrown on it, when I know the materials couldnt have cost more than a few dollars and couldnt have taken more than half an hour to make. I cringe at this, but if I saw a similar item that was, like you mentioned, made -completely- from scratch, then I wouldnt be cringing so much.

I get told on a daily basis that my prices are just right, or...more often...too low. Honestly, I rarely keep an eye on the clock because I'm up doing this, chasing the ferrets, tidying this place or that, going out for groceries...I rarely get a chance to sit undisturbed for more than an hour on average. It makes it hard to time my items.

I usually think: Would I pay the price for it? From my own pocket? But I'm so cheap when it comes to buying made jewelry that it impacts me. It also makes me spend less on jewelry or seek the best prices possible, lol. I guess thats my downfall with pricing, so I'm trying hard to get my prices into the range they should really be, but I cringe at changing some of the numbers because my mind always goes back to saying "Seriously, would you really pay that price? The materials were only $3!" I hardly ever think of the cost of labor.

That necklace though, the labor cost on that was definately factored in.

Web design kills me sometimes. It's a lot of tedius coding and all that. I took HTML in college, even FrontPage (which was easier, but still didnt make anything pretty) and I was glad to be out of those classes.

And ya ya, I'll get pics of the necklace...pushy woman...-grumble-

that necklace is so beautiful and intricate, no matter what you price it, it won't be enough because you put so much time into it.

It's quite beautiful.

That's right, pushy as hell, girl.

I use Dreamweaver. Sometimes it's fun, though, and not always a drag. I've got a couple coming up that I'm enjoying, so that's always nice. My favorite part is making the graphics and designing the site and navigation. I don't like coding.
