Those green cans are starting to annoy me. I look at who has heaps of cans and wonder where this 'rewards' system is going. If I hear another "I would have repped you but I have to spread it around." I think I will scream! Talk about having a divisive, cliquish mechanism in a community. The sergeant majors with heaps of cans do stick together. The unpopular people are there with 1 can no matter how brilliantly they post or how frequently. The rep system is embarrassing, divisive, clique forming and should be removed. When people rep others for nasty behaviour then this is reinforcing the wrong kind of behaviour. I wonder if well-canned individuals look at those stripes and think they are really liked and loved here? If you are going to have cans or stars then award them for the number of posts you make and nothing more.

If you like what someone said then post something contributing to the thread. Let's have no more of this repping nonsense. It smacks of primary school playground behaviour. I bet some people feel obligated to rep others because this is the way they get repped in return. Folks we are building a caste system through this rep system. Can the cans before it is too late!

I've had a conversation about another person about this. I do like being able to privately give a quick prop to someone for what they said, but I'm not sure it should have artificial value.

I think the system would make more sense were we allowed to spread negative rep, too. That way we'd be able to tell at a glance just who the prats were. No more cliques, just the assholes and the ascendant.

There are many existing threads on rep, and they include how many here feel about the system, and why it exists as it does (including explanations from Conrad on his feelings, reasons for no negative rep, etc.)

I don't have the time to search for them, but if anyone would care to do so, there is plenty to be seen.

Fat women come to Dimensions to find a place they can hang out and be enhanced for the experience. Why have a system that rewards cliquishness and not excellence? Why should someone feel their status and popularity is visible when all they care for is interacting with others? By all means send messages of support to others but do not tally these up as some sort of reward of excellence. No one should feel that they are being ignored, are unpopular or not part of the in-group. If the rep system makes some fat women feel diminished then I say can the whole thing.

Okay, the cans are silly. I think most people think they're silly. Let people be silly about them, I say. I don't think smart people think anyone's opinion is less valid because of can numbers.

As usual, Vince is right on the money. The rep cans and the continuous references to reps and having to spread it around and other associated BS is a symbol of the blatant cronyism that is epidemic in this place. It is like a pyramid scheme with the people that have the most rep points at the top of the pyramid. To try to explain it away as just a silly lark is terribly misguided or purposely deceptive. It is an important symbol of deeper seated problems with this dysfunctional community. It is like the graffiti that street gangs use to mark their turf.

When people openly attack another in a community then there is dysfunction there. When personal attacks are allowed then everyone is diminished. It is never nice to witness a stoning even if it happens online.

How come a moderator can remove a post she had second thoughts about but the rest of us have no such editing power? That doesn't seem fair to me and is another argument to reinstate the editing power of everyone. At the moment I cannot edit my posts, send reps, PM or email anyone else. I have no idea what you're talking about, but if you happen to be referring to me, I've removed nothing.

In regular membership categories, everyone has 15 minutes to edit/delete, etc.

I'm not in any clique, I'm pretty much a loner...that said, I like reading people's responses to my posts. I've had people say things that have really made me feel good, sometimes when I've been feeling not so good.

On the flip side, I LOVE giving rep.

I love being able to say "This is a great post, you nailed it!" without having to make a post in a thread just to say it. I don't like to worry about how much rep I'm getting, it makes me feel small. So I changed the part I think about...now I think about where I am I going to give rep. I feel like I'm tucking a nice little note into someone's pocket so they can happen upon it later. Who can I maybe make feel a little bit better today?

There is a reason why you cannot edit posts, send reps, PM or email anyone else. I though it was clear that you have been censured because of bad behavior. You received many warnings from Conrad, and he (along with the Mods) had reached the limit with warnings. Action was taken.

I am just telling others what I can and cannot do here. I am not complaining even though I don't like it. I find not being able to edit after posting rather unfair because I cannot correct spelling mistakes. I appreciate being able to post without requiring approval for every post I make.

Thanks for posting a list of the moderators. Maybe one day there might be more men in that list.

Perhaps Dimensions needs a few people who others can vent against! When I am here that angst gets spread around.
