Default Target First Saturdays @ Brooklyn Museum

The Brooklyn Art Museum has a free festival the first Saturday of the month where the museum exhibits are free and there is variety of other activities that end with a dance party. http://www.brooklynmuseum.org/visit/first_saturdays.php

Music (5–7 p.m)
Brooklyn-based band Red Baraat Festival combines trumpets, saxophones, trombone, and sousaphone with a double-sided barrel drum called the dhol, melding brass funk with the infectious North Indian rhythm of bhangra.

Dance (5:30 p.m)
Brooklyn’s LAVA dance company performs a combination of contemporary dance, theater, and acrobatics.

Hands-On Art (6:30–8:30 p.m)
Create a floral wall hanging inspired by the exhibition Kiki Smith: Sojourn.

Film (7–8:30 p.m)
The Cat Returns (Hiroyuki Morita, 2002, 75 min., PG). A young girl embarks on a magical feline adventure.

Film (7:30 p.m)
Sabrina Gschwandtner, visual artist and the author of KnitKnit: Profiles and Projects from Knitting's New Wave, presents “No Idle Hands,” a series of short documentaries on handicraft.

Book Club (9–10 p.m)
Authors Zora O'Neill and Tamara Reynolds discuss Forking Fantastic! Put the Party Back in Dinner Party, their guide to do-it-yourself entertaining, in connection with themes found in the exhibition Kiki Smith: Sojourn.

Dance Party (9–11 p.m)
Grupo Latin Vibe hosts a dance party with their live ensemble. Learn salsa dance moves with Stepping Out Studios at 8 p.m.
