i don't think i can count the many levels this makes me want to puke:
Bad Vibrations Human Bodies Alice Dreger and Ellen K. Feder, 06/16/2010 Read more: http://www.thehastingscenter.org/Bio...#ixzz0rLmn8LQW first off, genital surgery for infants--unless necessary for survival--is completely unnecessary & awful & causes huge problems for them in later life. secondly, the way they test sensation?!? prurient considerations aside it is a grotesque test: hey, we did this needless surgery on you.. you cool with that? i love (read: hate) how terrifying ambiguity is to the majority of the medical profession. sure, there are good folks out there, and even the folks who may make these decisions may be overall good physicians, but this really shows the marginalization of gender & sexuality issues in modern medicine. i just had to vent, thanks for reading.

Wow, that is a horrid procedure, and the follow up testing is beyond appalling. Heaven forbid we have body and gender diversity in this country (rolls eyes). Thanks for bringing it to our attention, veil.
BTW, Alice Dreger has written a fantastic book called "One of Us!" It is about conjoined twins and questions many of our fundamental ideas about bodies and autonomy and normalcy. I love that book, and think more people should be aware of it.
