It will be very interesting to see what comes from this. I wonder if the are just paying lip service to fat discrimination, or are they actually going to do something now.

Fully respecting the things Dr King spoke of in his speech, I really see fat people as the next group who needs social equality. I sure hope they do some good up there in Canada. It's so barbaric that most people think that stigmatizing and ridiculing fat people is good for them by motivating them to live a "healthier" lifestyle, as if it were anyone's business other than the fat person's to begin with!

I'm not sure anyone really believes stigmatizing is constructive: I think that's an excuse for the momentary high some people feel from putting another person down. Isn't this similar to telling women they make less money than men because they're less competent, or assuring African-Americans that the reason they experience higher unemployment than whites is because they're lazy? There's a big difference between being motivational and being hateful.

S someone living In Canada who experiences a LOT of fat bias, I hope this is an actual step in the right direction. I've only been hired onto the job I have because it's been labelled an "equal opportunity" job zone. But every other place refused to hire because of my size. Some had no problem in saying so. Maybe this is what we need. If they pass a law against it, a lot of what is done and said to me could be passed as a hate crime. Finally!!!
