Default New blogger

I've started a new food blog and could really do with some opinions on it. Am I able to advertise it here or will I get kicked off. I'll leave the name out until I know it's cool.

It's non-profit, just a collection of the recipes out of my head onto hard copy. The plan 1 day is to turn it into a book, but that's down the line. Until then, I just want to perfect my writing style and record all my dishes.

Whoever runs this, can you let me know.

Cheers.

I'd like to have a look. I'm sure you'd be able to advertise your blog here. It is a food related board so its not like it is spamming or anything.

Sure you can tell us about your blog. And you might want to put a link to it in your signature too.

Others have done it.

Do tell!

Cheers for that, wasn't sure of the rules. This is my blog address:
http://frugalfoodee.blogspot.com/

It is in the first stages so I could really do with some critical feedback. One worry is that I wrote it from the mind of a chef, is it too long winded or not enough description? Also do I need more exact amounts, I generally work by sight and never weigh anything. It's important that I get this right as I want to eventually get it published.

Cheers for reading it and be honest, I wont cry.

frugalfoodie.typepad.com

One of the things that I did was on some recipes, actually totalled up the cost per serving to prove that you could make decent food for less than the cost of going out.

Some recipes are from my dieting days. I have done vegetarian stints for awhile too.

Gutted somebody has already taken the name, it'll have to do for now.

The reason I've used the name is because if you do all the cooking from natural ingredients, you can taste the difference and it works out cheaper. As well as using cheaper cuts of meat, which need a bit more work, but can make an amazing meal. This is the French food philosophy.

Looking at your blogs, one thing I did notice is that you used Worcester Sauce for vegetarian recipes. The main ingredient is anchovy. Unless the American version is different to the original.

As neither of us are in this for profit I guess we'll have to exist together.

It's quite amazing reading your recipes how different our language is. Egg plant - Aubergine, Zucchini - Courgette, Cilantro - Coriander. Also, what are cups as measurement? I'm juxtaposed between enjoying reading your recipes and being confused to hell.

As Wilde said ‘We have really everything in common with America nowadays except, of course, language’.

I look forward to continue reading and being confused

American cooking uses a non-metric system. This probably stemmed from in the past when people would literally take pinches of things, or a teaspoon, or what have you.

The utensils for measuring are commonly sold in grocery stores and other places. You can find online converters in Google.

I did at one point correct the vegetarian recipe to soy sauce...but I must have not copied from the corrected version. Although you can buy vegan substitutes for Worcester sauce nowadays in health food stores.

I do believe we have a Coriander spice that isn't the same thing as Cilantro, so it could get confusing.

I'm fairly sure coriander seed is from the same plant. It has a totally different flavour, very floral. You dry fry and grind it and add it to Moroccan and Indian food.

BTW don't feel too bad as someone has already registered www.frugalfoodie.com.

That would've been my first choice, but I have several domains already that I am paying for and I don't need additional expenses at this time.

(Sigh...stupid recession...)

I like everything I've seen so far from everyone. In my opinion, 1 day of doing something is better than 100 days of talking/thinking about it. You only really know what you want and how to get there once you've started a project.

That said, you need photos. If you can't take your own, then try to find pix online that you're allowed to use (and credit them). Even if it's just a photo of potatoes, or a spice bottle or something. Hell, sketch a zucchini on a cocktail napkin and scan it, if you must.

People who like food and who like to cook tend to be visual. They want to see the food porn.

Good luck.
