Default The Royal Wedding--does anyone care?

I liked Diana but these two put me to sleep.

I do not care, and I resent the fact that the US news media fawns all over this story.

The British Monarchy was in charge of the place where I live until 230 years ago. I do find it interesting that this government is still there.

Obviously no one at all cares, anywhere. Those people lining the streets of London were hoping to see the Beckhams, the only British royalty worth caring about.

I've always had a soft spot for the British Royal Family, and I have NO idea why.

Kate looked beautiful. Prince William is a very lucky man. I hope he isn't a dog like his father and he actually cherishes his gorgeous (and I'm going to assume intelligent since they met at college) wife.

i wasn't interested, but i happened to catch them on the balcony this morning as i was beginning my day watching the news. i saw the huge crowds that seemed mainly full of young people. there seemed to be a lot of positive hopeful energy. i loved the explosion of applause at the kisses and hand holding. i ended up being really glad i saw that part. maybe the world is not as completely jaded as i thought after all and we still know how to share and create joy and happiness when we want to good wishes to the young couple and thanks for sharing your day

PS: can't wait to see a big fat commoner waddling down that isle one day!

should do, as an englishman, but I didn't.

I appreciated the day off, to be sure. there was a huge backlog of stuff that needed to be cleared, and that attic wasn't going to tidy itself. but I am apathetic towards the royals actions and procreation habits. I wish the happy couple the best, but apart from that, the celebrations was a resounding "Meh"

I watched a bunch of it. I get sucked into stuff like that where ritual shows off its fancy tail feathers.

I like seeing the clothing ( in my head, I knew what the dress would look like before I saw it, except I got the length of the sleeves wrong...was a pretty dress that was not all that special or different...but I digress )...the carriages pulled by gleaming horses in hats ( I think there were hats on them, unless I was still blinded by all the hideous hats on women I saw during the actual ceremony )...the amazing shots inside very old and majestic cathedrals.

Do I think the royal family of any country is relevant? No. Do I think tradition and ritual is something people will always seek out? Yes. Do I think it would be great if the monarchy publically admitted they are truly nothing more than a giant tourist attraction to anyone not so insane to think that they are special...you betcha.

Hell, I have been known to watch a few minutes of the super bowl...and the hoopla around that makes me scratch my head much more than a pretty wedding.

Just thinking about this with all of the hoopla going on with the wedding. Didn't care at all about seeing it. Still interested in what the Royals mean to the English.

I wonder if Americans need to look at the royal family, at least as it exists now, the way we (we being many, most, majority) look at the flag, the national anthem, the Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. Are they or have they become simply a living patriotic symbol that binds a nation together, reminds them of a commonality, a common history and connection to the long past of royalty.

We in America, thankfully, do not bestow this honor on fellow citizens, we consider all men created equal, as written in our Constititution. Royals were/are not equals in their societies and something with which I do not agree. But in the context of a living national symbol, maybe I can at least understand....

Some of those hats were crazy. I'm guessing they were worn for attention.

What one major royal wedding in what 30 years?

I like America, but I resent the fact that our culture is saturated with American culture.

It goes both ways.

Another case of if you don't like it don't watch.

Meanwhile the bride looked beautiful and the Prince is such a good person. A lovely ceremony indeed.

Well I thought it was a lovely, meaningful ceremony. Especially when the prayer that the bride and groom composed themselves was read out. It focused on how they could be more giving of their time and spirit to help others.
Indeed the Prince was in Australia only weeks ago comforting those affected by the recent floods and bushfires here.
He went above and beyond in reaching out to others.

Not sure why those in non Commonwealth countries dislike the monarchy so much. You are not part of the Commonwealth so why care?

As for talk of Australia becoming a republic, no thanks!

I guess the closest thing to what we could consider royalty are 'political families' Roosevelts- Kennedys - Bushs ... but that is a whole other matter...
