Does anyone make quilts? I am interested in having one made for my daughter with items throughout the years of her childhood (clothes and such).

I'm not much of a quilter but you might want to google a local quilters guild. I bet they could pair you with someone who'd enjoy doing a project like that. A local quilt shop might be able to help too. I'm holding on to all of Max's star wars tees to eventually make a blanket with it. (and boy does he have a ton of star wars shirts!)

I understand this urge because I have been recently thinking I'd like to take all my "souvenir t-shirts" from various places/events and do the same. I'm tired of them taking up 1/4 of my shirt drawer. ![]()

My Aunt had blankets like this made for her daughters before she passed away. They were lovely and precious. It wasn't just old items from their childhood but pictures somehow copied onto fabric. I have no idea how it was done or how much it cost but the end result was a keepsake to be handed down for generations. Very, very special.

yep yep...I am looking into taking clothing from things I have saved while she has been growing up ..and want to make it into a quilt. I also realized there is a quilting/wool/fabric store down the street from me so I am going to go in there and talk to them.

There are companies that do this that you can find via googling "shirt quilts" or something similar, (for example) but a) who knows what kind of quality you'd get, and b) the prices are high. I bet you can find a local quilter who will do a better job for about the same or less.
Good luck!

It's actually not that hard... There are some really nice"T-Shirt" quilts made from tees. That might be your best bet, and it's really easy... Let me know if you have any luck!

My Mother and Grandmother always called those "rag quilts". They would cut up squares of old clothing or material scraps and sew them together (called piecing.) Then they would layer a flat sheet, batting, the peiced top and tie each of the corners through with a yarn knot to bring the three layers together. Finish the edges by sewing on binding tape. If they were making what they called a "fancy quilt", they would stretch the three layers out on their quilt frames and hand sew patterns to bring the three layers together.
The last time I went into a quilt shop, I didn't recognize any of the techniques or the equipment. Nowadays most of the quilting is done on a machines. One of these days I am going to take a class and learn the modern way of making quilts.
