Default Casey Anthony Case Sickness/The New OJ

the pushing and shoving to get into the courtroom, the yelling and name calling in the media, whats wrong with us? why can't the American judicial system handle a media heavy case? why can't the media stop whipping up the hateful frenzy? why can't the rest of us moderate ourselves? why can't we finally treat little Caylee Anthony with the respect she deserves? is it so bad that it could result in a miscarriage of justice?

Part of it is this is just such a horrifically awful case. People really viscerally hate Casey Anthony, if she gets the death penalty they won't have any problem finding someone to flip the switch. Add to it the sensationalized media coverage, they try to play on people emotions and then act shocked when react emotionally. Its like they generate their own news.

i totally agree with that. what people seem to be forgetting is that whether Casey Anthony is guilty or not how we act affects a lot of things. not judging whether it actually happened or not, can you imagine how scary it must be for real victims of incest and molestation at home and how they must feel watching this? it won't make it more likely that they will come forward for help.

There will never be justice in this case. At this point, a fair trial is impossible.

Even when you take out the fact that the media is and has been obsessing over this, the portion that sticks out to me the most is that she waited thirty days to report her missing.

I honestly wonder what would possess a person to protest the Anthony family, standing in their yard with signs, bringing their kids, screaming Baby Killer!, wanting to come to fisticuffs with Casey's father, throwing garbage, playing loud music.

What on god's green earth is wrong with you that you would want to do that? And this was before Casey was charged (though to me, that should be irrelevant).

There aren't many things that would get my fat ass up out of a chair to make up a sign and go scream abusive things at strangers. I can't even get into the heads of these people, and I had to turn the channel when I saw clips of it.

Hmm...well, I've been loosely following the case (watch recaps every 2 or 3 days) simply because it's interesting. I've always been interested in criminal law, and the practice of it, so to me it's fascinating to watch the chess game being played out in real life. Much like some love watching a football game, say. I am not, however, emotionally invested it, and would never stand in line to see the case in person...I just don't care that much.

okay its happened. we'll probably never know what really happened to Caylee Anthony because we got too mad. are we going to ever learn anything from this. will we finally learn to restrain ourselves next time and call on the same from the media. or, will we go on insisting we were right even at the cost of justice?

It's because the trial, itself, is a microcosm of an array of contemporary social-issues which are both complex and emotionally-charged as much as they are universally relevant; all while, at the same time, some of us lack even the most rudimentary tools in order to access them otherwise. It's like this lens, through which anyone and everyone both wants to see & be seen. So, in as much as people talk about it as though for concern or feeling about these people they really know nothing about, it's ultimately a uniquely qualified (if at all inappropriate) stage or forum through which values and ideas and personalities can clash & compete. I dunno if my idea, here, is really fully formed or getting across in any kind of way, but....yeah, this had $#!%-storm written all over it from the very beginning.

I wouldn't quite define the problem that way. I mean; & to the point I'm trying to make above; if you give people the tools through which they can more effectively express themselves, they will probably be less frustrated. But I'm not sure if I can follow this idea that the hysteria is responsible for the verdict. As to what is, maybe that's more within subject-matter of one of the other (3?) threads. I so wish there weren't so many duplicates of what's basically the same general topic; I think it would improve the overall quality of the discussions.

the hysteria is responsible for the verdict simply because the political pressure it created resulted in an atmosphere that did not allow for the usual methods of investigation by the police and the DAs office to collect evidence to satisfy the beyond a reasonable doubt standard.
