Under fire, N.Y. AG wins plaudits in mortgage probe

On Tuesday, Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller announced the removal of Schneiderman from the committee of state officials that has been working with federal agencies to address "robosigning" and other shortcuts that banks took in their haste to remove borrowers from their homes

Reminds me of the tobacco settlement agreement with the Attorney Generals of the fifty states. In that example, AG Schneiderman would be the one holdout that wishes to punish the tobacco companies more severely and punish company executives. The rest just want a deal and access to the money settlement.

In this case, the other AG's want a settlement so homeowners will have closure and the cloud will be removed from the banks so they will lead money again. A delay in that agreement will only cause more suffering.

So liberal organizations that oppose a settlement and want to punish the banks, are cheering the NY AG's position. That may fit their political agenda, but what about the homeowners and potential homeowners? Doesn't sound like they really care about them.

What do the homeowners want? A path that will lead to the title of their homes?

We shouldn't punish those responsible, we should just give the peons some money to shut them up and let the banks go mess shit up again.

Exactly. This is anything BUT ignoring the homeowners who were/and will be again, screwed...royally. There has to be deeper investigating, not blocking it, and the banks are hoping that they get away with the drop in the bucket settlement. It's like the whole huge and this close to being catastrophic thing never happened in the eyes of some. I realize that politicians who want to protect their interests will try and slap people like Schneiderman down, and will use scare tactics...but what the heck is it that drives a ' common ' person to be OK with it all.
