Given that the term 'MILF' is sleazy, who can suggest a better term to express the attractions of middle-aged femininity in a youth-addicted culture? We have "BBW' to indicate the possibility -- no, the REALITY -- of beauty at all sizes; how can we best express the reality of beauty at all ages?* Let's have a contest!

*One of the most attractive women I ever met (in both a physical and a spiritual sense) was 102 years old and a retired dance teacher. We danced a tango together. It was a peak experience for me.

Why does there need to be a term?

1. Because we don't have an emoticon for it.

2. Because trying to perform charades on a bulletin board is a bitch.

3. There already is a term, but a bunch of people don't like it. So I'm inviting them to come up with a better one. So far, yours is the only response, which probably answers your question better than this post.

Agreed. Pity, though: I was hoping to replace 'mother I'd like to fuck' with 'autumn rose'. But then, I'm a hopeless romantic ...

if you just say someone is beautiful wonderful and sensual it empowers them. but, if you name them you objectify and are reductive of everything they are and make what they have powerless and without any deep or meaningful impact or true merit. it's a way to take it away.

actually ratchet is an old word. the new word is aggy. as in people who call women MILFs make me aggy--as in aggravated. keep up now! lol

Enough with the semantics! Let's just talk about how desirable mature women are. When one casts her eyes at you crooks her finger and flashes you a knowing smile, you can be assured you will soon be in the hands who someone who not only knows what you like, but also knows what she likes, and you both are in for a memorable time.

Seriously, I don't know any woman who would want to be referred to as a MILF. It's disrespectful and creepy. Any guy who used the term to me would be shown the door.

I personally have an age preference for men (for a number of non-sexual reasons). I can easily make that preference known by saying I prefer men mid-40s to mid-50s. I never have to use the terms "older", "mature", or DILF.

I am a BBW , in my 50's and although I'm older and don't have the shape I use to have I still find men thinking I am attractive.. We get older sure we don't have that 36-26-36 figure as women however men change too with time. We have to learn to love who we were and who we now and acknowledge that time makes changes but there are men who still like the "middle aged" BBW's and find them attractive with more experience than when we were younger.

The one that got away... She's 10 years older than me...nearly twice my weight. A good soul with a BBW body designed by the gods. A mother, grandmother, and goddess. -sigh- If I knew how great it would be with an (much) older woman...I would of started down that road decades ago!

I'm still young but I don't like the term MILF either. I wouldn't like to be referred to as anything 'ILF' as I am a person, not a sexual object. Same reason I wouldn't refer to anyone else as a 'ILF' acronym.

That is a good truth, Loopy. I've stayed away from using this term myself. That doesn't mean I am perfect, or that my imagination has never run away from me. I hope I am not the only one...

With that said, on another forum I frequent I recently became engaged in a discussion on objectifying men sexually. My input was consistent with the other men who chimed in. We actually like it. We are just wired differently than women, and view this matter differently as a result. Yes, I am a person. But the idea of being looked upon as a sexual object simply does not offend me. The opposite is true, in fact. I enjoy the prospect.

Do the men of Dims agree or disagree with me?

I'm pretty sure the term comes from the same part of the young male demographic which generally likes to be as offensive as possible in a lot of their language--I think it is a simple form of rebellion "I won't follow your rules of politeness, and in fact I'll flaunt my hyper-sexualized thought processes because I know it makes you all uncomfortable, and I'm proving that I'm comfortable with all of this stuff." or something like that.

I do agree that I'd not like it to be a general usage term. But in the context of where it comes from.....saying it upsets you is mostly just affirming that the term is having its desired impact.

I think women should say it offends them and the response should not boys will be boys. that is why there is more and more abuse of women on the whole. we need to teach them right from wrong. there are other ways for young men to be rebellious than on the backs of women.

Tad didn't give a proposed "response" or make excuses. He offered an explanation. I agree with him, it is a very specific, immature group out there who openly uses such terminology and does so with the explicit intent of provoking a reaction. Stupid people are out there. We have to share space with them.

Super-O: oh, they'll be rebellious on the backs of anyone, generally.

But I agree that it doesn't mean that such behavior should just be waved off--I'm just saying that telling most of the people who are apt to use such a term that you find it offensive is more apt to cause it to be used more, not less. They got attention and upset their elders--clearly they are awesome-wicked-cool!

If you encounter it, and are up for doing something, I'd suggest something more like: "Some day that will be the mother or your kid that some punk is calling a MILF--you sure you want that?"

Don't try to tell them what is right--they'll be pretty resistant for the most part. Instead try to get them to think it through. Odds are still low, but I think are better.

Odds are still low, but I think are better.
naturally. i raised a boy, had his friends around and i have always had a lot of boys in my classes. i never had an issue communicating things like that even to grown men. so generally i did not have to go further. but women sometimes make a mistake bargaining with young men and adult men too much. you can be soft but you have to know when and how to get tough too and you need mature men around who will back you up and not coddle them. the problem is very often it's other older men who enable them by acting like it's not a big deal. when i ask my good male friends to talk to a boy they take them to task over it so that they get that it's serious. i trust them to handle it because they won't soft peddle how important it is for a boy to grow into a decent man. a lot just need some strong guidance and direction anyway.

sad to say in this society young men especially are trained to discount what women say or feel. as a woman you just can't be tolerant of that stuff and you need to use any hammer you have. the tolerance is exactly why so many women face sexual violence. so women depend on grown up men like you not to treat it as normal or acceptable or as something they have the decision to make about not stopping.

in other words i don't really care why they do it. we were all once immature. i know the mentality of boys they are no mystery to me in that sense. i also had 4 bros and watched my father deal successfully with them when they got out of line. i can guarantee i would make them stop around me. that does me a favor and them an even bigger one.
