For those of you who are interested, MO'NIQUE'S FAT CHANCE airs tonight at 8 and 11 p.m. and tomorrow at 4 p.m. for two hours on the Oxygen channel (Channel 61 in the NYC area). I suspect there will be more airings, too, but wanted to give the heads up to those of you who, like me, will be staying in tonight.
This is the second year she's doing this, and while I have mixed emotions about it, I think it's mostly a positive experience. It's definitely something that needs to be done to get the studio execs thinking about the real women who populate this world. Enjoy!~Bountifully, Fuchsia

i still think the 10 bbws she decided to have are all smaller than the ones she had last year.

its on right now, and i think the producers got a little too involved. what do i mean? well it seems to have gone from "Fat Chance" to "Plus-sized Chance."
i only saw the first 4 contestants, but none of them were noticably large or anything. DEFINITELY not "fat." maybe big-boned. but that would be it. |

Soo... we have to be thin enough to be fat now?

I'm not saying: "wre r da fat chyks?!?!!!11" I'm just complaining that the one thing on television that was brave enough to celebrate size, seems to be shying away a little. hey, if im wrong, then nevermind. maybe it is just a coincidence that all of the contestants are universally smaller. fine, ill accept that. what do i care? everyone deserves a chance. im just saying, after stating "We're doing it for the fat girls!" they seem to just mean the medium-sized girls. variety, is what im trying to get at. if they were all over 400 lbs, it would be the same deal. i would be saying "where are all the mildly plus-sized? dont they get a chance?" i hope im making my point. i wasnt trying to be a sexist, fat-obsessed whatever. just a guy wishing that everyone would get an equal chance. |

I posted commentary at 11:28 pm Saturday but the thread is not coming up in the new posts.
You guys are right. No one in the top ten looked over a size 24. |

Oh no! No, the point you just made was what I was getting at. It was a gripe aimed at the producers of the show (and the media at large). You are absolutely right. That is what I meant, but I guess I ought to have been more specific, rather than short-stated and misguidedly witful. No, I was saying that the message from Oxygen seemed to become that we fat folks need to be thin enough to be on a show that is supposed to represent us. Which makes me crazy. Gah, I will be more specific next time. Because I was saying "Where're the fat chicks?!" Forgive me?

I watched it and yes, seems that the women in the batch weren't really that big. I mean bigger, yes, but big, big...no. Beautiful ladies nonetheless.
I'm not trying to be offensive here, but, it seems that the african american women are more accepted at a bigger size. I noticed they got higher points and were more in the final group to win. hmm |

i loved it. God bless mo'nique for doing this. and yes, i noticed that the smaller big girls got better marks that the larger big girls- of course all the judges were thin themselves- or maybe i am wrong. anyway, there was a lot of good advice and and think it was an amazingly positive thing for young bbws to see. i called my sister in law to have my niece watch it-she is going into junior high school and needs as much encouragement as she can get.

Watched it last night with the missus.
Thumbs-up despite points raised here. The show's a single ant in the fat-loathing ant farm of TV, thus it's to be praised. It's SOMETHING. Loud people vex me, though. |

I watched it again today and saw more than I did the first time. I think the blonde Evie lady from IL looks like a fat version of Gena Lee Nolin from Baywatch. And I think the prison lady (I forgot her name) looks a lot like Pam Grier. I thought it was well-done even tho most of the women were not that big.

I would like to have seen elocution lessons all around, and perhaps an effort to put the streetwalker stroll on hold until after the pageant (the winner, specifically), but them sure were some pretty ladies. (And clothes.)
Mo'Nique gets a Southern style "bless her heart" from me. I believe she means well, and with a little better handling and direction, could perhaps make a significant difference. And on the gorgeous glamor-puss scale she gets an 11.
