As agouderia pointed out, the social dynamic is different for males. I've dated a fat lawyer and a skinny tradesman....the tradesman was who drew attention. This is a situation where there just is not an analogous dunamic.

She's saying that for the most part, random strangers are not noticing you or expressing any reaction to a skinny man with a fat woman.

The OP wasn't suggesting that FA feel superior for being FA. He was questioning why he and others derive enjoyment from the surprise surrounding him being an FA. Fat is not viewed as a desirable trait, because most people in modern Western culture find fat to be aesthetically and sexually...
