UM's "Consider" on Being Fat and Healthy

Via fatnutritionist.com, I came across a HAES debate from a campus magazine. Nice to see this discussion happening on a college campus!

Was your Dad. Uncle, Grandpa an FA?

My grandpa definitely was, though he liked smaller BBWs than I do. If it is genetic, maybe it skips a generation!

    More "Scientific" Fat-Bashing

What the hell is this? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-10614837 Gah.

The documentary looks amazing. Thanks for posting about both of these - they're great.

    Men's Body Image

Ah, agouderia, I think you've hit on something there with height! It really is something that men are worried about, but again something I don't really think about because I'm fairly tall. I think most of the time I'm ignorant of the advantages that gives me. It's definitely a parallel with...

    Men's Body Image

I'm pretty sure there's not already a thread about this (though I'm open to correction), so I'm going to go ahead with this one. I already tried to write it once but deleted it by accident. Anyway, here's my question: what do we men think about our bodies? I'm a pretty skinny guy...

    Thinking Allowed

Here's a New York Times version of the same type of thing. I actually think it's pretty good: http://freakonomics.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/02/26/freakonomics-radio-fat-edition-is-the-obesity-epidemic-for-real/

End of an Era- Last Sideshow Fat Man Dies

"As the years went by, spotting a man who weighed more than half a ton was not that unusual" 1000+ pound guys aren't that unusual?? The journalist needs to be a little more careful here.

    The show your face/introduction thread

Helloo, I've made a few posts so far but I figured I'd throw one up here on the Intro thread cause that seems like the thing to do when you're new. Looking forward to finally contributing to Dims!

    "Get fat, live longer"

This is great stuff! I love that the article points out that there are many studies that have reached the same conclusion. I mean, when you have everyone from the Canadians to the Japanese saying that fat people live longer, you know they have to be on to something.

BBC - 'Keep slim friends' to stay trim

I probably need to stop posting incendiary articles, but here's another one anyway! The article is a little more nuanced than the headline, but the overall message it sends still strikes me as, "Don't be friends with fat people." I wish the article would give more play to the idea that fat...

Slate - Mommy and Daddy Are Fat

Found this today on Slate. Wondered what y'all's thoughts are, especially about the form in which Ms. Stewart chose to write the article. http://www.theroot.com/views/mommy-and-daddy-are-fat

Doing Away With the Extra F?

In my opinion what it really boils down to is a matter of convenience. Sometimes it's better to focus on the commonalities between male and female admirers, and sometimes a little clarity is useful to know whether we're talking about a man or a woman. Of course, all the above discussion points...

    The NYT on Size Acceptance

I've been a lurker for quite a while on Dimensions, but after I found this article I felt compelled to post it since it doesn't look like anyone else has. It's buried at the bottom of the New York Times homepage, but I think it's a pretty even-handed, if not sympathetic, portrayal of size...
