PART ONE: HOW DO I LOVE THEE?

Giselle Taika was an all around attractive, Japanese-American young lady who was as charming as she was brilliant. A second year student at Daley Community College, located on the southwest side of Chicago, Giselle worked at a bookstore and shared a small apartment with her close friend, Catalina Austin.

Giselle had long black hair that flowed over her shoulders and her pretty face was completely round. Giselle barely reached 5’4 and though her figure was technically slender, she had a small protruding belly and her upper thighs were a borderline husky. Giselle worked out as often as possible and watched what she ate, but the arrow on the scale never pointed below 139-pounds.

Giselle understood what this meant. After all her mom and sisters were all full figured, weighing in as high as 215-pounds. It was only a matter of time before Giselle would become full figured as well.

Giselle scratched her head and then yawned as she entered the kitchen. There at the kitchen table was her room mate Catalina with a box of donuts and a large glass of milk. Giselle half smiled, then giggled, "Hey, I thought we we’re dieting?"

Catalina was an exotic beauty with long, dark brown hair, beauteous face and smooth olive skin. Her shapely, voluptuous figure was a firm 130-pounds and quite decorated. Catalina’s left eyebrow had a ring as she did her navel and around her navel was a tattoo of a heart and upon her hip a tattoo of the quarter moon. By day Catalina was a student who majored in literature, but at night she worked as a stripper at a high-class gentlemen’s club downtown.

Catalina soaked her chocolate donut in milk; "You’re the one on the diet, not me."

Giselle pulled out a chair and tossed her long black mane over her shoulders, "I can afford to put on a few pounds, I only sell books. You on the other hand can’t afford to get pudgy."

Giselle took seat as Catalina replied, "There’s never anything fattening around here to eat that’ll make me pudgy and you know I always accompany you to the work out center. So I picked up a dozen donuts on the way home from the club, what’s the harm?"
Giselle rummaged through the donuts, "You’re like, tempting me."

Catalina giggled, "Tempting you? I don’t get it? Indulging in a few sweets every once in a while is worth the risk of putting on a few pounds, what are you afraid of?"

Giselle nibbled on a plain donut, "I don’t know how Glen or Craig would react if I got pudgy?"

Glen Monahue and Craig Bryant were Giselle’s top two guys. Glen was a follow student, as smart as he was natty; he had a vast sovereign attitude about himself. Craig was a good looking young man who worked at Sears and knew Giselle from socializing in the same circle of friends. Giselle played with the elastic of her underwear and snapped it back, "Glen already tease’s me about my big tummy."

Catalina raised her eyebrows, "Ah, maybe your tummy isn’t exactly flat, but calling it big is being dramatic. You have a cuddly little pouch."

Giselle caressed her plump tummy, "Like okay, maybe it’s not huge, but it could be smaller."

Catalina loudly chuckled, "Give me a break! Your self body image is so out of whack, it’s twisted."

Giselle finished the donut, "But like, I can’t afford to get heavier. Glen already makes fun of me and I haven’t a clue about what Craig thinks."

Catalina sipped her milk, then replied, "If they really care about you, do you think they’d really care how big your tummy was? They’ll accept you as you are."

A sour expression claimed Giselle’s pretty face, "I really like them, I wouldn’t want to lose them by getting heavy."

Catalina smiled, "You know your sisters and your mom are heavy, it’s in your genes."

Giselle nodded, "Don’t remind me."

Catalina stood up and grabbed the milk carton, "I’m not saying you’re going to turn into a blimp, but it’s a matter of time before you fill out."
As Catalina refilled her glass, Giselle patted her tummy, "That’s like, why I’m dieting."

The conversation was interrupted by a knock on the door. Catalina was about to leave the kitchen, but Giselle volunteered to answer it, "Sit down and finish your donuts, I’ll see who it is. This way you can finish your breakfast and I won’t be tempted to have another donut."

At the door was Ian Westchester. Ian lived in the flat just below the girls and was a stock clerk for a tile company. Ian was a cordial young man, handsome and easygoing; he also had a major crush on Catalina. Ian stood with a package in his arms, "Good morning Giselle, this came by UPS yesterday afternoon for Catalina."

Giselle welcomed Ian into their apartment, "Yeah, I was out on a date and you know Catalina works nights. Follow me, Catalina’s in the kitchen."

Giselle thought it cute that Ian was infatuated with Catalina. Giselle’s opinion of Ian was more than a little flattering, and she wished her roommate had enough sense to court the nice young man. Catalina actually did have a favorable opinion of Ian, considering him in a different league then the usual losers she seemed to attract. However, despite his many admirable attributes, she just didn’t feel Ian was boyfriend material. Ian followed Giselle into the kitchen and blinked when he saw his heart’s content in her underwear eating a donut.

Catalina rolled up eyes, "You should have warned me so I could have put on some clothes."

Giselle giggled, "Why? I would have missed your expression. Anyways, guys see you naked all the time."

Catalina sipped her milk, then remarked, "Yeah, guys, not Ian."

Ian’s voice nervously cracked, "This came yester..er..yesterday for you."

Catalina waved Ian on over to the table and Ian laid the package down. "This must be the collection of Thomas Campion I ordered",

Catalina smiled as she opened the box with a butter knife. Ian took a step back. "Thomas Campion, huh?", Ian replied.

Clearing his throat, Ian began to recite, " There is a garden in her face, where roses and white lilies grow; a heavenly paradise is that place, wherein all pleasant fruits do flow."

Needless to say, Catalina and Giselle both had wide smiles.

Giselle applauded, "I’m very impressed Ian, nice job. I wish my guys knew romantic poetry."

Catalina snapped out of her grin, and folded her arms over her bust, telling Ian, "Stop looking at my breasts. If you want to stare at boobs, Hooters is on Cicero Avenue."

Ian’s face turned a bright shade of red; "I wasn’t looking at your breasts."

Giselle wrapped her arm around Ian’s waist, "Why do you give him such a hard time?"

Catalina bit her lip to keep from giggling as she replied, "Because I’m able to?"

Giselle began to escort Ian out of the kitchen, "I think it’s sweet he’s so well read."

Catalina nibbling on another donut mocked Giselle, "Oh it’s so sweet you’re so well read."

Giselle returned to the kitchen once Ian left the apartment. "You know Catalina; Ian’s the real thing. I wouldn’t ignore him too much longer."

Catalina spoke as she ate, "Ian’s like all the other guys I know, he like’s me because I’m beautiful. If I were a pudgy bank teller, he wouldn’t give me the time of day."

Giselle closed the box of donuts; "First off Ian’s very much the opposite of those creeps you attract. Secondly, easy with the donuts, that’s like your fourth one."

Giselle placed the donuts in the cabinet as Catalina replied, "I’ve been dancing all night, I’m hungry."

Giselle snickered, "If it weren’t for me, you would be huge."

A few hours later, Giselle was at the bookstore stocking science books when Glen approached her. "Hey, they let you break for lunch?"

Glen was a tall young man with wavy blond hair and dressed as if he was enrolled in an ivory league school, not an inner city, community college. Glen was wearing a teal colored turtleneck, white sweater and gray dress slacks. Giselle placed the last few books on the shelf and turned to Glen, "Yeah, I guess so. Let me check with my manager first."

Giselle’s manager was Rick Brock. Rick was a rather handsome young man himself with light brown hair and glasses. Rick was also a student and was in the process of writing his first novel. Giselle stood holding Glen’s hand, "Would you mind if I took a lunch break? I’ll bring you something back."

Rick’s eyes met Glen’s and Glen smugly smiled. Glen and Rick weren’t exactly friends. Rick felt Glen to be arrogant, self-centered and conceited. Needless to say, Rick did harbor feelings for Giselle, but she was already dating two guys, where would he fit in? Glen didn’t care for Rick because he thought Rick to be a little too enthusiastic about writing and was a throw back to the chivalry of yester year. Glen considered Rick to be a weakling because he was polite, honest and courteous.

Rick adjusted his eyewear, "I don’t see why not. You’re just stocking today."

Giselle smiled, "Thanks Rick, I appreciate it."

Rick glanced over to Giselle and grinned, "Your penance is bringing me back a beef sandwich."

Glen spoke up out of order; " I don’t see you giving her any money for the beef sandwich?"

Giselle planted her body next to Glen’s; "Rick can pay me when we get back."

Glen took Giselle to a small diner not far from the bookstore, where she indulged in a salad.

"Not hungry?", Glen asked as he pounced on his burger.
Giselle shrugged her shoulders as she nibbled on a salad, "I guess I’m a little self-conscious about the size of my tummy, so I’m watching the calories."

Giselle glanced over Glen’s burger, "Like, I wouldn’t mind having a burger too, if I didn’t need to watch my weight."

Glen nodded, "That’s a very good idea baby. Your belly has gotten flabby."

Giselle shook her head; "I’m trying to lose ten pounds."

Glen munched on a handful of fries, "Yeah, you really should, you know? You’re very pretty, but without your big gut, you’d look much better."

Giselle’s tummy wasn’t actually all that big, but she agreed with Glen. "Yeah, like I’m not going to wear a tube top until I lose at least ten pounds."

Glen eyed a couple of slim gals as they entered the diner, then returned his attention back to Giselle. "Want to see a movie tonight?"

Giselle tilted her head, "Actually I have plans, but perhaps tomorrow night?"

Giselle didn’t want to explain that her plans were with Craig and didn’t elaborate on the details.

Glen sipped his cola, "Yeah, okay, tomorrow night then."

When Giselle returned to the bookstore, Glen’s parting kiss was long and deliberate. Glen wanted to make Rick aware that Giselle was all his.

"Give me a call later", Glen remarked to Giselle as he walked out of the bookstore.

Giselle handed Rick his beef sandwich and Rick politely made conversation , "How was lunch?"

Giselle smiled, "It was okay. I had a salad."

Rick grinned, "Just a salad? You’re welcome to half the beef sandwich."

Giselle patted her stomach, "Nah; I’m watching my weight."

Rick looked over Giselle’s figure, "Watching your weight? Why? You look terrific."

Giselle squeezed her tummy; "I’m starting to get fat."

Rick laughed, "You don’t look fat."

Giselle giggled, "I weight more then I look."

Rick leaned over the counter, "You look fine. Even if you did put on weight, so what? You’re a beautiful young lady, no matter how much you weigh."

Giselle wasn’t sold, "Like, if I don’t start watching my weight now, I’ll get pudgy. Pudgy isn’t attractive."

Rick began eating the sandwich; "Being pudgy wouldn’t make you look any less attractive."

Giselle planted her hands over her waist, "My belly is plump, my thighs are like, husky. Trust me Rick, if I became heavier, you wouldn’t think I was so attractive."

A customer approached the counter and Rick told Giselle, "We’ll talk about this later."

Giselle began to walk away, "There’s nothing left to talk about. I’m not going to become pudgy."

Later that evening, Giselle was watching TV with Craig. Craig was a casual looking young man with black hair and goatee.

"Want a refill on your soda?", Craig asked Giselle.

Giselle looked up at Craig, "Ah, I don’t think so. It’s not diet and I’m watching the calories."

Craig took a seat next to Giselle, "Watching calories? Why? You look perfect."

Giselle smiled, "Aw, thanks. But my belly is starting to get big."

Craig brushed his hand through Giselle’s long, black hair, "I think you look very sexy."

"Really?", Giselle replied with a song on her lips.

Craig kissed Giselle and afterwards remarked, "Yeah, a little belly is sexy on a woman."

Giselle needed to ask, "What if I gained weight? Just a little weight. Would I still be sexy?"

Craig rubbed Giselle’s upper arm, "How much weight are we talking about?"

Giselle took a few seconds to think, then replied, "Twenty pounds? Would you still like me if I were twenty pounds heavier?"

Craig smiled, "Sure I would still like you, but don’t gain that much. A larger version of you wouldn’t look so cute."

Giselle nodded, "Yeah, you’re right. That’s why I’m dieting."

Craig took Giselle into his arms and tightly squeezed her, "If you got too big I couldn’t do this."

Giselle softly chuckled before they kissed.
