WVmountainrear? Interesting handle. I've an idea where it came from, but I'll let them explain it if they want to.

To the Europeans,
In America we call the Thanksgiving to New Years time the holiday season. Of course you don't celebrate the American Thanksgiving. But since you call an extended time off from work that Americans call a vacation a holiday. What do Europeans have a collective phrase to encompass all the December festivities that include kwanzaa, Christmas, hanukkah etc?

In New Zealand, those of us with enough cultural sensitivity to want to acknowledge that other people have festivities at the end of the year use the phrase the Holiday Season. It's a phrase that is becoming quite popular. As it's summer in the Southern Hemisphere, it is the time when schools and universities have their long vacation and most people go on their summer holidays.

In Italy we say 'le feste' (the festivities), but it includes only Christmas, New Year and Epiphany, so the Christian festivities. We don't have a word including the other festivities too. By the way, here kwanzaa is totally unknown
