Dead Fat
by Irish Bard

Day 1

"Brainzzzzzzzzz"

"Braaaaaaaaaaainzzzzzzzzzz"

"Braaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinzzzzzzzzz!"

"Liver!"

The moans of the walking dead wandered around the streets of Guilford, infecting the air like morbid chants of some rock concert gone sour. They shambled down the street, shuffling and moaning, whilst the girls commented on them whilst running for cover.

"Yikes, it's like being back at college!" cried Briget, 22, Guilford University student, specialising in advanced maths and horror movies.

"it's more like the release of a World of Warcraft Expansion." muttered Alice, 23, IT trainee, specialising in leadership and extreme boredom.

"Come on, the Fairy Centre is up ahead, we can hide in there," she added

The Fairy Centre, at the centre of Guilford, stood out against the masses of zombies like a middle figure sticking out against death, bold, defiant, but ultimately futile. The four ran for it, knocking the shambling dead aside, bowled inside through the back door, Alice locking it with a snap.

"Ok. we're safe, for now!"

"What are we going to do!" wailed Tabby, 22, Guilford University student, specialising in fashion and whinning alot.

"Wait for me to get my breath back." muttered Martha, 23, telemarketeer, specialising in communications and being extremely lazy. "Anyway, this is a pretty sweet deal! get the electricity back on, food court at the top, bedding, cloths, tv, DVD's, games, the lot! if there was anywhere I could stay during a zombie apocalypse, this would be it!"

"You're not serious?" Tabby said, "Look at this, we can't survive here. Think of what it will do to our sanity, not to mention waistlines."

"A few extra pounds never hurt anyone," Martha replied, eyeing the slender
Tabby up against her own chunky frame. "I mean, exercise if you want, it's not as though you've got men to appease now, unless you want to go outside and share a few handfuls of brain with them."

"We don't have anywhere else to go," Briget stated, "there's the car park where we came from, theres the outside street, but thats swarming with the zombies. broad day-light usually kills the undead in most movies, but..."

"Briget, please," Alice looked around. "Ok, we need to first block off all the other exits, and avoid any of the zombies getting in. second, we need go to Downessa to grab some bedding and stuff, take it upstairs, to the food court, that can be our base of operations. Alright... who can cook!"

All four put up their hands. Alice looked suprised. "Well, that makes it a lot easier. We each cook collectively for each other, there's plenty of stock up there, I hope, and failing that, there's always stuff in the Co-op, threshers and so on for emergencies..."

"So we're staying?"

"We don't have a choice, Tabby." Alice said. "We are stuck between death and surviving it out here. I'm personally wanting to stay alive."

"Yeah, and once it's all over, maybe the government will put the zombies to work in really boring jobs and we can get the better ones..."

"We can all live in hope, Briget." Martha smiled, "Now come on, help me nick the telly's in HMV."
