So the only point of a fat persons life is to overcome the adversities of being fat?
This is thier spiritual lot?
erm..well..there are a plethora of adversities for fat people to overcome other than fat for the sake of the plot of a good film!!
And yeah, dims is a great site for people overcomming adversity..or comming over pics of others.. i agree..
maby they should make a "Dims the movie"!
And to answer your question i hate/am bored with one dimensional fat people in films.. I hate it because it doesnt really send all that good a message out at all (That all fat peoples lives only involve fat issues and nothing else).
Yeah its great to get the message out "thats who we are and thats how its going to stay" but can we do it with more explosions, espionage plots, car chases, narrative non fat and involving the lesbian gangstar genre?
oh and btw "hairspray" is acceptable (both origional and musical) cause john waters is a god.

I never said that being fat is the only thing they need to overcome, all I said is that it is something they need to overcome, so why not be realistic in the film. Movies with fat people aren't ONLY about overcoming being fat, they have other things to overcome as well. Hell Hairspray wasn't even about overcoming being fat cuz she was totally happy with herself the entire time (as far as I remember). It was about other people overcoming her fat. AND it was about overcoming racism.

And also Queen Latifa really isn't that large of a woman...

I am not sick of movies with skinny people...i'm sick of BAD movies. Make a good movie...skinny or fat I don't care...and I will watch it. I don't pick my movies by how much the actors weigh...

I can't really agree with you here because I don't think that the premise of the book takes a sympathetic view of the struggles of heavier women so much as it chides them into feeling that their lives, habits, and physical appearances are inferior to those of chic and sophisticated (ergo, slim) Gallic women. The point is not, "Have pride in yourself so that you can achieve your ideal weight," it's, "Pay attention to these cultured and beautiful French women so that you may learn what you SHOULD be!" Though presented as a self-help manual, the underlying message is one of disgust toward overweight women (not to mention a great deal of cultural chauvinism), I feel.

Obviously, the film could go in any number of directions, but the subliminal (or, many might argue, not-so-subliminal) suggestion remains in the name, does it not?
I did mention that I know nothing about this book...

i dont pick my movies by how much people weigh either. Only my porn. But it would be nice to see a great movie, with a great plot, fantastic cinamatography, a great soundtrack and a fat leading lady?? agree, you must?

And i agree that queen latiffa isnt THAT big but its a step in the right direction.. whatever happened to that woman in "whats eating gilbert grape?" she should star in a remake of gone with the wind or something. Though personally i didnt fancy her.. she is one of the only actual fat actresses i have seen in any hollywood films..
Or maby they could just hire new fat actresses.. hmmm.. i'm off to google gilbert grape lady n see what she's up to..

Well, you did say something along the lines of "Skinny women deserve their moment in the sun, too," and, yes -- I'd say Hollywood overwhelmingly agrees with you.

Of course, where slender actresses are concerned, their bodies and/or body-image issues usually don't feature as the topics of films (gossip magazines are, of course, a different story).

Why have you stopped acting? You need to tred the boards once more cause the "fat leading lady withoout a fat plot as a nessessity" revolution starts here!!!
