I recently found in the news a story about a hotel I couldn't believe to be true. So I checked it myself.
They wrote about a hotel in Germany that states on their homepage in their terms that the hotel is not suitable for guests that weigh 130 kg or more (~ 286 lbs).
I checked the hotels homepage and indeed they still have it online.
The owners have been asked why the hotel isn't suitable for people 130 kg /286 lbs. They explained that they have new furniture and other stylish equipment which they don't want to be broken by heavy people.
They also mentioned their small shower cabins would not fit for bigger people. And someone of size recently broke a bed.
They have been forced to put the statement into their terms and conditions for legal reasons, they said.
Media did some researches and confronted them with the fact of a possible discrimination of big people.
They said they never refused guests because of their size and they won't do so in future.
To make things worse I have read in another article that being confronted that they might discriminate people with that statement in their terms and conditions the owner replied something like "honestly, I personally feel discriminated when I have to endure such a sight ."
I am not sure if this comment really was made with these words but I wouldn't be surprised.
Honestly, I am speechless.
edit: not surprising for me that in addition they don't allow children there.
