So apparently the first restaurant I ever went to all by myself (and where my Dims profile pic was taken) has decided to change their name without consulting me. I guess I get why they wanna change their name and I can see how it's easy to just "flip" the p into a b (not to mention how punny it is for a pancake joint to "flip" their name), but I'm just not sure I'll ever get used to going to eye HOB. This article seems to think the b is gonna stand for burgers which are my favorite non-breakfast thing to get there, but there are just so many burger places out there already it seems foolish to try to compete in that arena. Assuming this is going to be a permanent change, my money is on the b standing for brunch, but my other thought (since the burger thing does appear to come from a reputable source) is that the name change isn't actually going to be a permanent change, but rather a promotional stunt to push their burgers for the summer. Thoughts?

That's so weird, but I'm sure it's just a stunt.

I would assume that the B would stand for breakfast rather than burger. It would make more sense.

Yeah, I get that they want to send the message "We're not just for breakfast food anymore", and their burgers are pretty good, but it just seems like everyone is doing burgers and I think we need a house of pancakes more than we need yet another burger joint. But like I said I think this is just a promotional thing that isn't actually going to last long past the summer.

Yeah I read that. That is just so strange.... I don't think I've ever had a burger there. I always went for breakfast. I'll have to give their burgers a try sometime! :D

No, it's more like, 'We're MORE than just pancakes for breakfast.' Not so unlike Kentucky Fried Chicken's switch to KFC.

Afterall, what is breakfast, actually? A time when you eat? Your first meal of the day? It could mean distinctly different things to different people. In that way, a burger or anything else is as much a breakfast item as anything else, potentially. So, it's like they're both re-inventing themselves and by way of re-inventing the very concept of breakfast alongside it.

It could last, I think, in as much as they could last. They're sort of struggling, right? Maybe this is exactly the kind of "bold move" they need to survive.

We hit IHOP for when we want pancakes and lots of them!
Son would get the pot roast sandwich.

    Don'tHaveFacebook,
I think we have a group of IHOB execs that have never heard of New Coke.

Hmm...looks like you were right. They've now expressly made it about burgers.

I mean, it could work. In the sense that a bunch of otherwise non-interested people might now consider Ihop for a burger?
