A disclaimer before I begin- I am not getting money or free stuff from Undersummers for this. (Sure would be nice, lol!) I bought my Undersummers with my own money and just want to spread the word to other fat folk who suffer the scourge of chub rub.

I am a very pear-shaped person with enormous thunder thighs. And as such, I get horrific chub rub (aka thigh chafing) when I wear a skirt. So for years I avoided skirts and dresses, despite the fact that I like them, because none of the solutions I could find were truly comfortable for me. Bike shorts? Too hot. Split slip? Too grandma-ish and they often don't hold up very well. Boyshort panties? Don't have enough thigh coverage. Anti-chafing gel, stick deodorant, or Bodyglide? Wears off too quickly. Tights? NOOOOO, I hate tights and pantyhose, they never fit right! Spanx? I hate them even more than tights.

But then... I read about Undersummers in an article by a plus size blogger. https://www.undersummers.com/ She raved about them; pricey but so very comfortable, and cute to boot. And she was right! They have no inner thigh seams to chafe our delicate skin. Fabric that looks and feels like lingerie but stays cool and wicks sweat away. Sizes up to 4X in everything, 5X in the Fusion style (black and beige only). No shapewear type elastic so you don't feel constricted. I can wear a dress all day in the hottest part of summer with these and my thighs stay comfy. They don't ride up, slip down, or give me swamp butt. And if you get the kind with lace, the lace is amazingly soft and comfortable against the skin.

For pear-shaped people 4X and under, I would recommend the Original Lace Shortlette. There's less fabric around the belly in that style. For people with larger bellies, I would recommend the Fusion Shortlette or Classic Shortlette. Those have a higher waist and thus more fabric to cover your belly. I just got a Fusion Shortlette and while it fits my thighs perfectly, it's a bit big in the belly for me. I'll keep it and roll the front of the waist down, but I do wish they made the Original Lace in 5X. For people with shorter legs, I would recommend the High Thigh, which are a version of the Original Lace with shorter inseams.

There are a few downsides. One is the price. This is a small company, the garments are made in the USA of quality fabric, and the construction is unusual. So I'm not really surprised. Keep an eye out for sales, seasonal colors and patterns often go on sale at the end of the season. Sometimes they sell slightly "off" pieces that don't quite fit their standards at a discount too. I've bought a couple of these and I'm still trying to figure out what part of them is not right!

Another downside is that you can't shop for them in person. Undersummers is an online only company. And finally, while they are machine washable in cold water, you have to hang them to dry. Not a big deal for me as I hang a lot of my clothes to dry anyway, but some might find this an issue.

Let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to answer them! I hope this will help some of my fellow fatties feel more comfortable in dresses and skirts.

I used a product similar to those years ago because my thighs started rubbing I got them at Lane Bryant I think just can't remember the name of the company.
Back then my belly wasn't big at all but most of my weight was in the hips and Butt.
The chafing was minor but my legs sticking together when sitting down was a pain.
If I wore tight shorts I was always pulling the legs down or picking them out of my backside.
I have gotten used to my thighs rubbing and I really don't think much about it because I wear hose when I wear skirts and dresses.

@Tracii: I wish I could find tights or hose that I like, but I've been burned so many times by expensive hose that felt terrible on my legs and kept sliding down. I just gave up on them. :(

@DragonFly: The 5X fits a 54-58" waist and 62-66" hips! I hope Undersummers sells enough of the 5X that they expand the rest of their range.

That would be fantastic! Have you tried the big bloomers company out of the UK for tights. They go to super sized and are super quality and not bad prices

Ooh, I haven't encountered this company before! And it looks like their shipping to the US is quite reasonable for trans-Atlantic delivery. Since I'm moving to a much colder climate this year I might take a risk on the All Woman 180 Denier tights. Thank you so much for the tip!

Hose that don't roll down at the waist would be awesome but I have yet to find ones that don't.

I have not found any problems with their heavy weight hose!!!!!! lots of belly room. They are also wonderful. Tell them you heard about them through Dimensions.
