i use my Alexa and Dots to listen to music, but the best thing is turning lamps on and off.

I have a serious love of my Alexa - what does she do for your life?

I'm a huge fan of the Tabletop Audio skill; lots and lots of 10-minute ambient sound tracks to choose from.

Pandora Music, no having to drain my phone battery listening to tunes while I clean house.

I don't think I'll ever get Alexa, too paranoid to have a robot that listens to everything I say living in my house. Like, not full on tinfoil hat paranoid, just tinfoil headband paranoid maybe lol.

Same here, then I got a Google Home speaker for Christmas. Creepy, yet awesome.

The lamp thing is pretty cool, but I also programmed mine to greet me as "Your Majesty". It's about time.

Edit: Also, my speaker wakes up when you say "Hey Booboo" instead of Google.

Sorry, I just don't get the point of Alexa or why people feel the need to have one. I've managed to exist for 53 years and counting by using the fingers on my hands to turn on light switches, lamps, turn on the TV, play the radio, the stereo, check the weather or whatever I want to do. Don't get me wrong, I use a computer every day at work as part of my job (I'm a reference librarian) but I can manage quite fine without having one run my life elsewhere.

All of you paranoid about about being spied on by alexa?
Your smart phone does it to you all the time.
Earlier today I talked to my wife on the phone about getting an estimate on replacing the roof. Now I am getting ads on my phone for roofers.

So it's neither my imagination nor magic that causes ads for things I've Googled (occasionally including for stuff I just bought, which makes me think Ok you're a little late lol) to suddenly appear all over?

Funny thing about these automatic ads. I drive tractor trailer cross country. So I may get an ad for a politician in California, or a roofer in Tennessee. Waste of money since I live in Florida.
