I'm not talkin' about Shania, Toby Keith, Brooks and Dunn and the Dixie Chicks...I'm talkin' about OLD-SCHOOL, HARD-CORE COUNTRY.

Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Fred Eaglesmith, Steve Earle, Johnny Cash, Willie...without all the flash some of them later accumulated.

What are some of your favorites in this genre?

Mine are listed in part above, but include many more.

I'm going to open this thread with "Waitin' 'Round To Die", by Townes Van Zandt.

This clip is taken from the movie Heartworn Highways, a must-see for anyone into this.

I'd also recommend Be Here To Love Me, a film about the life and work of Townes Van Zandt.

This is the real thing, folks.

Honest feelings, honest music.

Weigh in with some of your anecdotes, favorite artists or songs, or just to stand up and be counted amoung those of us who know that ripping a person's heart out with a song is sometimes the best way to help them heal.

There are older examples, as well as those more recent.

Pull up a wooden chair on this dusty old porch, and speak your mind.
