From the euphoria of finally seeing (or rather not being an infant when) the Celtics win a title to the punch in the throat of the demise of one of the most entertaining teams during my childhood. I'm not from Seattle, I've never been to Seattle and the closest relation I have to the city is the fact that my half-sister moved there four months ago; but I'm feeling down today. I've had enough time to take it in, but it still doesn't seem plausible. This was a team that was among the NBA elite only a decade ago, blowing my middle school mind with the deadly combination of the Reign Man and The Glove. This was the only team to test one of the greatest teams ever in the '96 Finals. And though they were in those forest green space needle uniforms (which seemed really cool at the time) at the height of their success I'll always remember them for having one of the nicest uniforms and coolest logos in pro sports.
I'll also remember my Nate McMillan card that always made me laugh with the impeccable hi-top fade/short-shorts combination.
Shawn Kemp dunking hard enough to power the Eastern Seaboard for three months.
And Detlef Schrempf's hilarious whiteness.
