Kids and Horror Movies

I just saw Wolfman and this GUY decides to bring his young (around 5) son to the show. The kid is sitting one seat away from me cringing and whatnot throught the entire movie and my overprotective mom side came out and I ended up watching for the kids reactions more than watching the movie. The kid did very well handling such a movie but it still perturbed me. Would you bring a young child to a R rated movie?
