Lately I have become kind of a comic book geek. (As you can surely tell by my Question action figure avatar and refernce to the Justice Unlimited cartoon in my memeber status).

Back to the point, a couple of months ago I stumbled on a hardback of a Marvel series named Runaways that have never heard of. The comic about a group of teens in the Marvel universe who discover their own parents are sercertly supervillians. The teens band to together to fight their parents both out of a spirit of rebellion and moral judgemnt for their parents' crime

I devored it because it had intresting characthers and what I feel to be realstic portyals of teens. Now I get to the part of my post that actually has to do with Size Acceptance. One of the kids is Gertrude Yorkes,a cute sarcastic, socialist, and overweight girl. She is currently my favorite comic character.

The art (espically the covers she is featured in) sometimes has trouble showing that Gert is overweight which is a disappointing and the offical Marvel website states that she is only 125 lbs.

here is one of the better momments in Gert history. She is debating with Spider-Man after he used his famous "With greath power comes great responsibility"

125? Riiight.
While I understand where you are coming from, it doesn't seem as size-positive as it would be.

That's just not at all. :\

Well in the writting she is considered to be overweight. But I agree that it could be better size postive wise. Its nice to have a "fat girl" in a comic who is not the laughable comic relief.

Does Eta Quantum have a psyhic link to a dinosaur?

To me, though, it's sending a mixed message. If anything, by stating she's 125 pounds, it makes 125 pounds look "fat". To me that is worse than not having a "fat" character at all.

Eta Quantum got a job with the Reptiloid Aliens gestating human-Reptiloid hybrids in her amazingly bulbous elbows... and the Reptiloids are directly evolved from dinosaurs...

Well, I won't throw out any spoilers here, but Gert's current status leaves something to be desired. That and most artists clearly didn't get the memo that she's SUPPOSED to be "overweight". Most covers, for example show a much more slender Gert than that above pic. *SIGH*

I have no general hope for any mainstream fat female characters in comics that ARENT sidekicks, comic relief or have obviously fat-inspired powers or names. (Big Gertha, Zepplin, etc.)
