Studies have shown that the amino acid taurine may help prevent and treat fatty liver, which is common in fat people as well as people who consume a lot of alcohol.

Short of advising patients to abstain from alcohol and lose weight, there is little else that a doctor can do to treat fatty liver. Taurine would be the first treatment of its kind, if proven to be effective in humans. In fact, the trial on obese children found taurine to be effective in treating fatty liver irrespective of whether the children lost weight.

It’s inexpensive, I figure it can’t hurt, and have been taking 1000mg per day for about two months. I also read on a mental health forum that it sometimes has a calming effect but I don’t notice feeling any different from it. It’s available at GNC but I have found the lowest price through Amazon.
