A friend of mine asked the following questions.-

Can you give me a reason to believe that if Obama is reelected the next 4 years will be any better then the last 4? What is the logical reason to vote for Obama? Certainly not because of his good job performance, and certainly not because of the freaks who endorse him?

I responded-

I do not believe that the next four years will be better than the last four. The debt is still out of control and if interest rates go up, which they almost certainly will, the national debt will be even worse and it will become even more difficult to provide a balanced budget or anything close to it.

As best I can tell the Romney plan is to save huge amounts of money by reducing taxes and reducing expenditures although not reducing any expenditures for the military, for Social Security, or for Medicare. This means any savings beyond simply balancing reductions in expenses to equal the reduction in taxes will have to come from programs that are not Social Security, or Medicare, or the military. I am reasonably certain that the farm lobby will not allow farm subsidy programs to be limited. That means all of the eliminations will have to come from the programs that help those who are fairly poor and relatively powerless.

Romney is the one who tells people to simply shop around to get a good cheap college. As someone whose parents paid for my undergraduate schooling and who received scholarships for my three years of graduate schooling I am very much aware of how much advantage that gave me in getting a college education. Had I had to work my way through college I almost certainly would not have made it. I am not the only one such shape.

Some of the Republicans and probably Romney talk about simply giving people money and then letting them buy the best health insurance plan for them. Already, supplemental medical insurance is so complicated that Maryland puts tax money into Maryland state workers who help people decide what is the best medical program for them. If Medicare is completely eliminated and people are given money to use as they see fit to buy medical care the sharks will start preying with a vengeance. I have listened to telemarketers lie to me repeatedly about how they can effectively eliminate almost all of my unsecured debt. I have listened to telemarketer after telemarketer tell me that with their program they could eliminate the 24,000 court ordered dollars that I was required to pay Deleen. Several different telemarketers told me that if that I enrolled in their program they would talk to both Deleen, Deleen's lawyer, and the judge and get the $24,000 reduced to no more than $12,000. They were very sincere.

The masses may be smart but if the masses have money from the government there will be many, many, people who find ways to take it from them. It is my understanding that the major football teams have special people whose job is to help football players manage their money. I do not get free specialists to manage all of my money nor do you or do most people who are in the poverty level like us.( (As Romney pointed out a middle-class family unit earns about $200,000 a year) that definitely puts us in the poverty league.)

I believe that people need some help to manage their money and the government is the one that should be doing the basic help. I do not believe that if Obama is elected the next four years will be better but I do believe that if Obama is elected the next four years will be less awful than the next four years would be if Romney is elected. (Before 1936 there was no Social Security. Before 1936 people were able to put savings into interest-bearing accounts and/or stocks and build a nest egg for their old age) You said that Social Security was passed with bipartisan support. If so, then that must have meant that both Republicans and Democrats realized that people could not be trusted to save up a nest egg and goodwill with friends and relatives to provide for them after they could no longer work.
