There's been a lot of "what if Zimmerman had been black and Trayvon white?" rhetorical questions posed in threads here.
Well, it's not Florida, but:
in NY, 2009, Roderick Scott, a full-grown, armed, african-american man shot and killed Christopher Cervini an unarmed white teen (he was 17, same age as Trayvon i.e. both were young men). Scott was acquitted on charges of manslaughter on the grounds of self-defence.

I don't recall anything like the massive media hype around the Zimmerman case, certainly we didn't hear about Scott all the way over this side of the pond... but we did hear about Zimmerman prominently on the BBC....
