Our federal election campaigns are required to be at least 37 days long. But apparently Mr. Harper is preparing to start the election this Sunday, making the campaign over 77 days long. W.T.F. ???? Apparently a big part of the reason may be that the Conservatives have more money than do the other parties, and they amended the campaign laws last year so that the longer the campaign, the more parties can spend -- basically they can try to run the other parties dry.
I'm sure he'll offer some other justification, but I can't imagine what reason could justify subjecting us to an additional 5+ weeks of campaign torture. I've disliked how Mr. Harper does politics for a long time now, but at the moment this one is really looking like taking the cake, an act of really breath-taking cynicism.
I've never been big on donating to political parties, because to a large degree I consider all of the rascals to be fairly equivalent in the long run, but he is really tempting me give generously to the other parties, just out of spite.
