I've had a stressful week - serves myself right i guess for patting myself on the back, believing i was all organised for Christmas & that my lads were all sorted out !!

At 1.30 am Wednesday i got a phone call from the local police telling me my son (20yrs old & doesn't live at home - although he still lives in town) was in Boston hospital (50 miles away). They couldn't tell me why or how he was cos " that would be against the data protection act" - but they could ring me in the middle of the night leaving me worrying until morning when i could get a lift over there !!!

Turns out he was drunk as a skunk & broke a window on his way home. The local police cells are structually unsafe so they sent him to Spalding police station ... on discovering he was diabetic the shipped him off to hospital for observation all night. I got a call at 7am from him asking if i was going to pick him up - he had no recollection of the events at all ... not of leaving the pub, walking home, being arrested, taken to Spalding or to the hospital & having his stomach pumped & insulin etc etc. He thinks he sat in the reception of A&E all night !!!

Despite all my initial instincts: i did not rant & rave at him, nor did i slap any sense into him. Instead i made sure his girlfriend was here when i brought him home knowing full well she carried more clout than me :D

Since then i have made him apologise to the police, & marched him round to the landlord of the building where he broke the window & apologise, along with the promise of paying for damages ( i will pay then he WILL pay me back). I've also made it clear that should it ever happen again i WON'T be fetching him (even if he has no money with him as in this case) or bailing him out of trouble - & the girlfriend has told him she will finish with him if he puts us through it again.

I've also been in touch with the pub he had been drinking in & told them that if they let him get that drunk again i shall be contacting the licencing board to complain (it is illegal to serve anyone already drunk) - much to his embaressment.

And finally i have assured him that IF he ever does it again i will hang him up by his balls from the big apple tree in my front garden:D

My methods may not have been conventional - but i seem to have got my message across ... he's very contrite at the moment ;)
