Australia's new Federal Health Minister is now going to take it right up to aussie fat kids by singling them out for special attention at just 4 years of age.

You gotta admire their persistent use of that outdated test of 'fatness' - BMI. I thought this was debunked years ago.

... And for the record, I did NOT vote for this incoming government!

FOUR-year-olds will have health tests for obesity from 2009 under a plan by the Federal Government to tackle the epidemic.

Health Minister Nicola Roxon today called obesity a "national priority" and said it would receive the same status as other chronic diseases such as cancer.

From next year, a plan will be rolled out across the country for children to be given health tests at the same time they are immunised.

The tests will check childrens' body mass index (BMI), their teeth, sight and hearing before they start school.

Ms Roxon was speaking at the Childhood Obesity Summit in Sydney today.

She ruled out taxing fatty foods which some experts believe will reduce the growing problem.
