Pencil Skirts

So, I just bought a black pencil skirt with a zipper down the front at the Avenue like two weeks ago, and I was thinking about wearing it to my birthday dinner on Saturday because everyone is going to be dressing up but I can't figure out a way to wear it without looking like I'm going to an interview. Any suggestions on how I can keep it dressed up without looking work-ish?
