That’s right, starting July 1st smoking devices are now illegal in Florida. Anyone found in possession of a pipe two times (even if it has never been used) becomes a third degree felon. In Florida, this means you are permanently banned from voting. For a pipe.

With one swoop of the pen Rick Scott may have put thousands of companies out of business, and their employees looking for jobs. They also need to offload their entire inventory before July 1st when the bill goes into effect (yea, only a couple weeks from now).

The bill I’m talking about is FL HB49 / SB1140

Specifically the bill bans:

(a) Metal, wooden, acrylic, glass, stone, plastic, or ceramic pipes, with or without screens, permanent screens, hashish heads, or punctured metal bowls
(b) Water pipes.
(c) Carburetion tubes and devices.
(d) Chamber pipes.
(e) Carburetor pipes.
(f) Electric pipes.
(g) Air-driven pipes.
(h) Chillums.
(i) Bongs.
(j) Ice pipes or chillers.

Hold the Bugs Bunny Gif.......
As some states progress, others just have to step backwards.....

Losing your voting rights for owning a pipe, more people in jail, you have to wonder, why this bill is being passed now that most of the public view of Marijuana is favorable? That the drug is proven to be less destructive than alcohol? That legalization of this drug can raise revenue and potentially decrease drug violence? Does he not have better things to worry about? Are some far right wing (far right can be from any political party) lawmakers and elected officials just plain vindictive or what? Why do they love to go against what the people want? Why do they love to criminalize people?

Does anyone else find it extremely eerie and ironic that a state that has a "Stand Your Ground" law where you can just shoot anyone and potentially get away with murder under the murky guise of "self defense" desires to bring up a law that bans people for possessing a pipe? Even if it is used to smoke a herb that is derived from the earth and has relatively no major health consequences? Isn't that damn ironic? Straight out of Alice and Wonderland.

The same love the gun, hate drugs attitude of so many far right elected officials that boggles my mind.
