Of course there is the CAKE.
My (pre-ex) wife and I invited the guests to help us with the wedding rather than give gifts. As a result, the reception dinner was a potluck with quite a variety of delicious dishes.
I've been at other weddings that were strictly on the rubber chicken circuit. The best though was a 17 course chinese dinner, even if I couldn't take more than one sip of the shark-fin soup.
