The debates are finally over and it's now a mad scramble of just under two weeks before the 2012 Election for President.

Anyone want to make any predictions?

I am totally unsure who will win now with Obama's lead in the polls now clawed back to a virtual dead-heat over the last three weeks.

As a student of astrology, I also noticed that the US Election this year happens on the day of a Mercury Station Retrograde - Nov 6, 2012. I finally got around to looking up a few articles on it, and it makes for some interesting discussion.

This is the first time a Presidential Election has ever coincided on a Mercury Stn Rx and it occurs right on Tuesday at 6pm EST as the polls are closing, as the votes begin to be counted and as the news is being reported.

The last election (and only US election) that previously happened on Mercury Station (Direct) was in 2000. We all remember how that turned out.

In 1960, the last previous instance of an election while Mercury was in retrograde motion (before 2000), there was confusion on the night JFK defeated Nixon. It didn't occur on a station, so it wasn't drawn out and disputed.

This astrological event also happened in 2010 on the same day as the Australian Federal Election - which resulted in a hung parliament (a very rare occurrence in Australian Federal politics). It took 17 days for the Prime Minister to cobble together the Government through negotiations and deals.

This year, what this indicates is that it will be an extremely tight election (as the polls are showing). It will also more than likely not have a clear winner. Or if a concession or victory speech is given, it will be retracted / withdrawn.

It will more than likely be a long drawn out process - maybe the voter fraud issue will pop up (?). It might not be resolved until late November (or possibly into December like in 2000 which took 36 days before a definitive result). It may end up in the Supreme Court again where the result will be decided.

Oh.. and as for picking a winner - whichever candidate does win, it will appear to be a tainted, hollow victory as the other side will refuse to accept the result (like how Dubya Bush's Presidency was in his first term).

In one astrology article I read which had a discussion between astrologers after the article, someone pointed out favorable aspects between the mid-November solar eclipse and Romney's natal and progressed charts.

Something "unresolved" for Romney is dealt with during the month of November. One astrologer pointed out an 8 year pattern with a beneficial planet - whether that means a victory or not (or a two term Romney presidency) remains to be seen.

Also - indications for the US mundane chart itself indicate an overall favorable result for the Republican party (transiting Saturn entering Scorpio coincides with conservative/business-friendly Presidents in US history).

For more reading, here are some articles I found on the subject (which hopefully aren't too laden with astrological jargon speak).
