I couldn't decide where to put these pics - the Restaurant Meal Pics thread? The original Food Porn thread? Then I decided they warranted a thread of their own.

It was Memorial Day Weekend, which this year was more like Memorable Food Weekend. I already posted pics from lunch on Friday at the Melting Pot in the Melting Pot thread. Since that food was pretty pedestrian, I didn't think it should be included here.

Friday night I joined EvilPrincess and HappyFa for an incredible meal at HappyFa's Golf Club. It was a private tasting prepared especially for us by the club's executive chef. The room was lovely, our table was in front of a picture window with a spectacular view, and we had the place to ourselves for most of the evening.

And now, allow me to take you through our meal, course by course.

After cocktails at the bar (I got a powerful Bloody Mary, so thick with horseradish and spices that it was practically a snack), we were seated in the dining room.

I soon learned it would not just be a tasting, but a tasting with wine pairings! I was excited, as I am in the process of learning about wine and discovering my preferences. The first wine was Yealands Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2008 which was really wonderful. (I can't describe wine, so maybe EP or HFA will help!) This was paired with the Amuse Trio, below.

Ipswich Clams with black truffle carpaccio (left), Smoked Cheddar & Apricot Fritter with Truffle honey (center) and Truffled Pomes Frit (right).

The clams were incredible. Maybe my favorite bite of the evening. Crisp yet tender, sweet and perfect with the truffles.

11-Fritter.jpg
The smoked cheddar and apricot fritter was delicious too. It was the perfect combination of savory and sweet. I wish I'd taken a pic of it cut open.

The truffle pomes frit (yeah french fries) were perfect! I loved them

Next wine - Argiolas Costamolino Vermentino di Sardegna. Also very, very good.

18-FirstCourse.jpg
The wine was paired with our first course - fried prosciutto crustini with foie gras pâté (left), edible orchids with watercress, wild arugula and shaved fennel in a shallot-lemon vinaigrette (center) and sticky toffee cheese.

Closeup of the foie gras pâté and crispy prosciutto. Hmmm maybe THIS was the best bite of the night. Absolutely delicious together.

25-Salad.jpg
Close up of the salad. It was incredible. I love arugula anyhow but the flavors from the orchids, watercress, fennel and the shallot-lemon vinaigrette elevated it to something ethereal. I know, I know it was only a salad...but still. Yum.

Mmm...the cheese. Salty and sweet. Reminiscent of gjetost cheese, which has a caramel-y quality.

Stay tuned for the rest of the meal!
