H.G. Wells - although his grammar can sometimes be a bit much, his subject matter has inspired countless others and remains really groundbreaking shit.
bret easton ellis - his earlier stuff...he had a really innovative style, and he had an interesting way of weaving stories together out of anecdotal recounts(rules of attraction remains one of my favorite books to this day)
