I'm a teacher of recreational and pre-professional ballet to students between the ages of ten and sixteen. I've recently been promoted which means I get my own dedicated studio and this, in turn, means that I get to choose what dance-related artwork, posters and other knick-knacks I have around the place.
I feel that it is particularly important to expose my students to some size-positive influences as they all (even the recreational dancers) feel pressured to achieve or maintain the "perfect" ballet build. Not only can this make them feel bad about themselves if they are not naturally so slender, but I've also noticed that some of the girls are inclined to be very derogatory about anyone who is not as thin as they are.
Therefore, I want to have some artwork and photographs of plus-sized people dancing to subtly persuade my students that one does not have to be rail thin to dance well! I already have posters of Botero's ballerinas, but if anyone has any other suggestions I would be extremely grateful to hear them.
