Lately I've been under some stress, dealing with some issues, avoiding others for far too long, etc; so I decided that I'd see a counselor. I have been to one before, but not in awhile. So the decision really didn't bother me at all until I had a sudden thought: Is an FA going to a therapist like a BBW going to a doctor?

I've read horror stories on the board about (SS)BBWs misdiagnosed, the doctor taking one look and attributing everything to weight and not even caring what the original ailment was.

Now, obviously it's going to be different in a lot of ways, but what I'm wondering is as, an out of the closet FA should I have any concerns? For one thing, I don't mind talking about sexuality, but as it's not an issue, I don't want things to get sidetracked from the actual problems. I don't know how Freudian the mental health community is these days or even if the topic of sex/relationships will come up. But I'm not interested in getting pegged as a deviant and then they decide that I have a host of things to work through. Does anyone have any thoughts/personal experiences on this? Or maybe even professional opinions?
