I belong to a photography forum and the question arose about asking permission for taking photographs. We were originally talking about specific venues, but I brought up how I try not to get people in my photographs or to photograph strangers.

Some of the people have responded that they'll just photograph people if they seem "interesting" although not in a rude or disrespectful manner. [They're trying to work on the art of photography, I believe, not do it to create internet jokes or be rude about it.]

So if you knew someone was getting you in a photograph in public, how would you feel about it? Would it bother you, even if you knew it wasn't with mean intentions? What would you do about it if you did?

I'm trying to point out to some of the members of that forum that it can be a sensitive topic, even if done out of good intentions, but I'm curious how everyone else would respond.
