You know..
Sometimes I see, or read something that makes me sad for the human race,
And I can't help but wonder, if there is a God up there, how he could possibly
Want to admit being the creator of a species that at times, can be the lowest
of the low.

This thread is inspired by the other thread in this forum.. *Would you ever..*
And the blog associated with that thread.

It amazes me..not only the ignorance of people, but how they choose to stay that way.
How people think they have the right to judge and condemn a whole group of people because they don't fit into their circle.
And even worse, that there are parents out there, who teach this attitude to
their children.

I've seen it many times, where people associate higher health premiums and such to obese people, and although I don't deny that happens..or that people die of obesity or whatever..
It seems forgotten.. that people also die, just to fit into what society calls beautiful, what society calls acceptable..because that's all they know, that's all they've been taught.
They can be perfectly healthy as a big person, but rejected by the majority..

Eating disorders claim alot of lives...and cost alot in health premiums as well..
Not to mention the vast majority of teenagers who feel so pressured into being what they're told they should be..that they take their own lives, because they can't seem to fit in, and all they want, is acceptance..
I know..because as a teenager, I was almost one of them..
The sadness, the financial strain, and sense of preventable loss associated with that..also has a bearing on society.

Why is it so hard.. to just accept people..for who they are?

I wrote a lyric a while back, long before I knew of this place..
Dedicated to those who's lives have been lost...in just trying to fit in.
Being the place this is...I can't think of a better place to share it I guess.

A Million To One...
©2005 Sharon Mark

(vs1)
She's a one in a million
Every feature's perfect
From her graceful cheekbones
And her pouty red lips
A body that taunts
The dreams of most men
To each golden lock
That blows in the wind

(vs2)
Now a million women
Are compared against one
As from girls they are taught
This is how it's done
Twenty thousand the price
Of one self esteem
Her thirty seconds of fame
On your t.v. screen

(ch)
What kind of world
Has it become
When the voices are silenced
A million to one

(vs3)
The percentile so low
Of girls who compete
And the power in numbers
Of those in defeat
Just can't seem to change
The comparison scale
As the million strive
And the market prevails

(br)
While molding their minds another young girl dies
Her body gone weak as she tried to compete
With society

(ch)
What kind of world
Has it become
When the voices are silenced
A million to one

How easy it is to forget..there's a flipside, to every coin
