It’s apparent that there are Monkees fans on the Board. So, I created this thread as an appreciation of the group for postings of videos and discussions which I hope will be fun and informative. I’ll start by posting a video of outtakes from The Monkees 1996 Documentary.

And, if there are performers or groups folks enjoy, I encourage you to start a thread on them too. :)

The Monkees concert with Micky Dolenz and Mike Nesmith already played Albany on March 10th. Having attended the March 9th Show in NYC, Davy and Peter were there in Spirit.

Theirs is a very unhappy story. Anyone ever heard the name Don Kirschner - who put the whole thing together - and then got very upset when they turned out to be a band that 'answered back'. So, as one critic rightly put it: he walked off in a huff, like a spoiled child - and eventually got exactly what he wanted: a band that 'didn't answer back' - the Archies - with the nauseating 'Sugar, Sugar' - a CARTOON band!!!

It was actually producers Bob Rafelson and Bert Schneider who created the concept of The Monkees TV show. Don Kirschner was hired as the music coordinator who picked the songs for the records.

While his formula worked at the beginning, The Monkees were frustrated because they wanted to play the music and write the songs for their records. Kirschner refused to compromise and was fired from The Monkees project.

When Filmation we’re developing the Archies cartoon series, Kirschner was again hired to provide the music for the series.

In both cases he was hired and wasn’t part of the early creative process of the two projects.

P.S: I wrote a book on The Monkees and if you send me a private message I’ll send you information on how to order it.

Just for fun, this is one of the songs on the 25 song version of the Listen To The Bands collection. In my opinion the funniest, and perhaps the best version of ‘The Day We Fall In Love’, considered by many as the worst Monkees song, finally done justice. :D

Well, darn it! I'm sorry I missed seeing Mickey and Mike perform in Albany. I live about 90 minutes west of there, went to grad school there and could've trekked out there for the show. Oh well...

Fans have posted videos of the show on YouTube. I know it’s not the same as actually being there, but it’s the next best thing. There will be a live album being recorded for later release.
